I have been driving and working out some minor bugs on my AWD converted 2017 Mustang GT. See the build thread here: AWD Build .
I put a new clutch in over the winter and I am trying to break it in. But, it really magnified a "problem" the car has had since I got it and it was stock. Compared to my history with other manual transmission cars, this car has always been difficult to take off smoothly. To a lesser extent it is also more difficult to shift smoothly, during normal driving.
For example, my current daily is a 2011 Audi S6 6MT and in that car you can take off without even giving it any gas, just let the clutch out nicely and it smoothly takes off. There is some computer wizardry that keeps the RPM all but constant. That is NOT the case with my Mustang.
So I decided to look at the tune and see if there was something obvious. First thing I did was make the throttle more aggressive in the lower percent range. Nothing drastic mind you, just say 5% more demand at say 20% pedal. Holy crap, that simple change made a huge difference and got me excited that with some tuning I can make it what I want it to be. I have done some other changes too that are a bit more risky that I can share, but I want to vet them out first.
Does anybody else have a similar experience and done anything about it either in the tune or other changes?
Thanks,
Tim
PS, my daily drivers have been a manual transmission since my first car in 1989
