Mach 1 is a "Ford Performance" Vehicle

Ford recommends changing it at 7000 miles, dealer said I should do it at 5000. In my head I was thinking 3000 for the at least first one. Now I think I'll get it in this week, let them know it was down a quart and get it changed. Also need them to look at the trunk alignment.

Good you caught it, take it to the dealer to get the paper trail going but don't worry much about it. It is common in first few thousand miles for cars to burn oil and have low MPG.

Additionally, Ford was rumored to put in certain friction modifiers for the first factory oil fill, I think it contained charcoal and some other stuff I have an MSDS sheet of it somewhere....

Most dealers and service centers don't have knowledge of it but it makes logical sense. I'm not 100% sure Ford still does this. Perhaps you can inquire with your dealer about this rumor of special suace in the first fill. I discovered this information about the friction modifiers during heavy research on the infamous coyote engine tick.

I'd lean towards 5000 to 7000 mi. If the first fill has those modifiers I wouldn't want to change it too early. From then on, I think I'll do 5000 intervals. What does owners manual say on the subject?

Lesson to everyone especially new car owners, check it every time you are at the gas station, or after a several hundred mile drive.

Have you done an oil change yet? Either way I would get the dealer to document it ASAP just so you’re covered. I know Ford has acceptable levels of oil consumption but their limits are way higher than I would ever be comfortable with.

All that means...is now you can burn one quart of oil every 500 miles (instead of the non-performance 1,000) and they won’t do a thing for ya

That is nuts. I would not keep a car that went through that much oil I don’t care what kind of driving I subjected it to.

I think those comments were for serious track use with sustained RPMS up near redline. Unlikely, but Ford is trying to cover the bases. BTW, with my Bullitt I changed the first time at 1,000 miles, 500 of which were very gentle and 500 of which were heavy throttle.

I just got off the phone with a very nice guy at the Ford performance Track Attack facility.
I asked him specifically if the Mach 1 is a "Ford Performance" vehicle because there has been confusion on this. He said positively it is or it would not be in the Track Attack program. ...
