The just recently released info for the M2 Competition Pack, looks as though this is going to be great car, if the standard M2 is anything to go by. And at an estimated £50k it won't be that much more expensive than an 18 Mustang. Great to read that sales are tracking about 50% above expectation with sales on the stick shift strong enough for them to release the competition pack in manual (usually only autos).

A completion pack M car with a stick shift that's not much more than an 18 GT. Will definitely be a future classic.

those words and bmw just don't go together any more they haven't made a good car in years and even then the road going versions of those good cars were somewhat questionable

The BMW will be a great car, and I'd respect it, but the Mustang? That's love

The sound of those R8 V10's and Porsche GT3's, glorious noise and a nice green S550 Mustang too.

Yes the latest versions have been lacking but the E90 M3 was a great car, especially with that V8. I think the M2 may succeed where the latest M3/M4s have failed.

It's very accomplished but it's not a muscle car ...... It's a BMW

Only one German brand had a muscle/sports car, that was the 6.3l C63 AMG, which now no longer exist. That 6.3l was a true masterpiece, 507PS naturally aspirated horses and one of the few engines that sounded as good if not better than modern American muscle.

But its gone, that is why the Mustang does so well in Europe/UK as whilst the Germans are chasing efficiency, Ford are still delivery big fat fuel gussling V8's, RWD and manual muscle/sport coupes.

Also the new Mustang is not a true muscle car either, it stopped been a muscle car a very long time ago, the only true American muscle car that still exist is the Dodge Challenger Hemi. The Mustang and Camaro had a lot of European influence in them making them more a sports/muscle hybrid but are all the better for it really.

Back to the M2, great car, CP will be an epic car. Suspect residuals will be fantastic just like the current M2's are, handling should be incredible and its a nice all round car. But problem is BMW have not had a special engine for a long time, all this turbocharged nonsense is just well boring and shit to be honest. You can't beat NA and supercharged for drama, personality, soundtrack and occasion.

Old M cars were total package, a true race inspired engine normally with a unique soundtrack, incredible high RPM combined with torque with incredible chassis balance. Now all M cars seem to have left is chassis, they have made them dare I say it a bit too normal, a bit too easy which dilutes the specialness of them.

In all honesty the Mustang has never been a true muscle car in the same vein as the Pontiac GTO, Chevelle SS etc it's a 'pony car' :)

I agree with you entirely with your summing up of current BMW M cars. It not that they don't perform I just don't think they're as involving.

That is the problem when you move to a turbocharged run of the mill motor.

As amazing as Mclaren is, I'd love a 570S Spyder to replace the SVR, but then I've replaced the frantic roar of the V8, the pops, bangs, farts, explosions for something that sounds like a Dyson on overdrive with wooosh and pops.

New Aston V8 Vantage just released, stunning car, insanely fast for a RWD too at 3.6s to 60 and 7.8s to 100 and handling should be sensational due to it been a transaxle and perfect 50/50 balance but I see that as a sidestep from the SVR.

SVR is better than I imagined, shame Jaguar can't market for shit and overprice them massively, they really could sell a lot more, but right now I'd rather they don't as the limited numbers make it very exclusive, help its value and I suspect by 2020 Jaguar V8's will also be turbocharged probably same route as Aston took by using Mercedes AMG V8 TT engine, though rumour is they are doing a deal with BMW for their 4.4 V8 TT which to be frank is even worse as that BMW V8 I think is rubbish and sounds woeful.

Best V8's right now are Yank and British, pretty much as its always been but the Germans had a good go with the 6.2l Merc unit and the 4.0l E92 M3 unit, shame they killed those.

But yeah back to BMW, the new turbocharged motors just make the engine soul less. :(

Colleague at my old office bought an M235i M-Sport and it was a damn fine car to punt around, but it was night and day with my Coyote. Above 4500rpm it was like nobody was home in the BMW. Same with the 328i M-Sport I drove. Above around 4k RPM the engine just died. Noise would happen but you'd barely be moving.

I don't agree with the notion that the Germans no longer make a decent V8. The 4.0L twin turbo in recent AMGs is brutally savage both in pace and sound.

That 4.0l is very fast, the sound is highly artificial though and after the 6.2l its well just not as fun. Faster yes, but not as fun.

If speed was the only important thing in a car, we'd just all go buy Datsun GTR's.
