Thanks for the answers Beef. Do you know if the Lund tune affects the driving modes? As mentioned above, the throttle response depending on which drive mode is selected as well as the exhaust tone that's noticed in track mode.

I still want the driving modes to work the exact same way they do as stock. From all the other threads on this topic, I am not alone on this.
the driving modes will be "intensified"

This cant be true and im going to write up a huge thread when i get home trying to explain why, and bring it into question. Because if they were to intensify that means you didnt tune it well enough to begin with.. how is track mode picking up extra throttle response after youve already tuned it?? And that would mean for people with a tuned base gt that someone with a tuned Premium would still have more throttle response once they tunred theirs to track mode..

Throttle response and position is computer controlled.

When you press the pedal there is a delay between that event and when the throttle actually opens. I believe this can be tuned on this platform. Driving modes would shorten this time to make the car feel faster (it accelerated sooner (not faster) so it appears to be faster).

When you press the pedal 25% of the way the throttle body doesn't necessarily open 25% of the way. There is a curve that determines how much pedal input = how much throttle opening. This curve is adjusted by the driving modes.

Tuners will have to confirm all this.

The base cars probably only have one setting for these (same as almost all drive-by-wire cars). The tuner can probably set this to whatever you want. My guess is tuner's base setting is closer to the default "Track" setting. Give you the best response to make it appear the car is faster (hence the tune made it faster and you are happy that you spend the money).

The tune itself is still probably really good, but you wouldn't notice it as much without tweaking throttle response and position.

No one is questioning what throttle response is. And what do you mean appear faster. Quicker throttle response is faster...... its plain and simple if you tune your car the throttle response part of the track modes becomes obsolete. If some one doesnt think so its like saying you have two top fuel drag cars.. both tuned to the gills.. but one has track mode and the other doesnt... so the on with track mode will have better throttle response??? Lol NO! It doesnt work like that..

If all depends on when you start measuring.

I hit the gas before you because I know I have delayed throttle. Both our cars start moving at the same time. Your car is not faster than mine and it doesn't make more power than mine (all else being equal).

But let's talk throttle position curve a minute. In my Audi S4 there were drive modes similar to the Mustang. 0, 1, 2. 0 was comfort. 1 was Auto, 2 was Dynamic. The names are irrelevant even though people thought they meant something (like Auto). If you put the car in Dynamic and gave the car 65% throttle it seemed really fast compared to Auto at 65% throttle. However if you thought you had more go in the car after that you were mistaken. From 65%-100% there was almost no additional acceleration. In Auto there was a bunch.

Is Dynamic faster than Auto? No.

I would bet it's similar here. I have seen no evidence that the drive modes adjust anything other than throttle response and position curve. No one has said they do either. Now if they directly adjusted timing tables, etc in the ECU that's a different story.

Maybe.... just maybe they are tuning the baseline value. Then, if each mode does a calculation of $BASE_VALUE + $MODE_OFFSET, you would in fact still have throttle position changes in the driving modes.

I don't know, and either do you so we can't speak in absolutes and tell people they are wrong and that we are going to start a big thread about it.

They could also look at the PCM and see if it's a base or premium car as well and have different calibrations, therefore making the premium's "Track mode" equal to the base's "Sport mode" (or whatever it is in base).

I think it's a little premature to tell people how it works if you aren't one of the people looking at the code/tables/maps. We need to ask the questions and not jump to our own answers.

I'm curious how this works too. To be honest, I have a small background with LS1Edit and EFILive FlashScan on my LSx cars and have a Diablo Trinity tuner for my C7. I'm not really a fan of closed, canned tuning boxes if I can avoid it, but being honest... on a car I am not going to go crazy with (like my C7 and probably my S550) the tuners with canned/semi-custom/remote tunes are pretty good these days.

Okay i could understand the base value and then the computer calculates more off-set for each mode after that.. but then were does that leave the people with a base and not Premium? So they would tune our cars to the fullest and you guys would have to put yours in track mode to get the most out of your tune? And if they were to do that with the base value and let the computer calculate for each driving mode they would have to figure out how to set the base so it scales all the way up when you hit track mode. Which seems to be a lot more work then nessesary.

Is there any evidence that the drive modes affect any engine tuning parameters other than throttle?

Not at this time. I have not seen anything mentioned across multiple forums.

mpg is dictated by your foot, lol

don't get caught up in these places that try to advertise all this ridiculous stuff.

all things being equal, the car should run better, and get better mpg's, "if" the driving style is 100% identical, most of the time, with more power, people are going to be more aggressive.

if your worried about mpg, my recommendation is to keep the car stock, and use cruise alot
