Hi,

This is not Mustang-related, but since there are so many people around here with extensive experience in everything automotive, I thought I'd give it a try.
I want to replace the wheel nuts of my Mondeo with plain ones, i.e. without the stupid ornamental cap that swells over time. I've got a new set of wheel nuts off eBay, which look identical to the originals in all but one respect.

The original nut (right) is conical in shape, while the new one has a conical tip, followed by a washer that forms the rest of the cone.
I seem to remember that this kind of nuts should be tightened to a lower torque than their one-piece equivalents. Is that correct?
The manual says 100 ft*lb without mentioning the nut type. This can mean one of two things. Either there's no difference, i.e. the recommended torque is the same for all lug nuts of any kind, or they haven't considered the washer-type nuts simply because OEM ones aren't like that and they don't care about anything non-OEM.

In your experience, does the washer type generally require a different torque? Or is the washer irrelevant when it comes to the tightening torque, and I should simply go with the manufacturer's recommendation regardless of what kind of wheel nuts I'm using?

Thank you.
