I looked around a bit, but didn't see anything. I can't recall if its always been this way, but when my handbrake is disengaged I can move it freely down maybe 1/4-1/2" and up 1/2-3/4" (just a really rough estimate based on how it feels). Is that normal, or did I break something loose?

Yep, I've got the same thing going on. Had the dealer poke around when it was in for the oil change, and they said they can tighten it up under warranty, but it would take a few hours as the rear calipers need to be taken apart a bit.

No issues with the parking brake not disengaging or anything though, so I'm just going to not worry about it for now.

mine did the same after i bought it. a part had to be replaced along with the boot. no biggie. It basically got stretched out apparently causing it to have free play when brake was all the way down. they didn't have to mess with any calipers either.

Oo nice! I think my service guy was just guessing. Did they keep the car overnight to do it, or was it quick enough you could just wait with it?

I've noticed the same thing with mine. On two occasions in as many months I have experienced a red warning message on the info screen about the brake being engaged. Both times were well into a drive, but simply pressing the lever down eliminated the message. It hasn't been bothersome enough to go through the trouble of a dealer visit, but I'll mention the above info to them if/when I do take it in.

I've been having more and more frequent warning messages just like yours... almost once every other day, usually after I start off. It's becoming annoying, doing that detent-less slapdown to quiet the persistent warning and being kicked out of cruise-control.

I have this same issue. I have had the light come on and by pushing the handle the extra 1/2inch down or so (the handle rebounds and goes back up slightly after this due to the looseness) and the light goes off.

it's not loose, the leather boot is too tight on top, pulling up your handle a little.

same here. the top of the boot is too tight keeping a small amount of tension on the handle.

Have you guys been able to address this with your Ford Dealers yet? If not, bring them in for diagnosis as soon as possible. Also, please PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number. I’ll loop in the customer service manager for your area.
