I’m getting into the track / auto cross scene just looking for any recommendations on things to do to the car before going on the track. My car is a 10 speed I’ve seen some forum posts on transmissions and rear diffs overheating. I got a few things done to the car already it’s on coilovers front and rear, LTH, exhaust and an intake and tune. Just looking to see what issues people have ran into with there a10 cars so I can avoid them.

I track mine
Overheating. So u need a bigger cooler and eventually a thermal bypass.
Also better clutches.
Dont ever ever pass 230f
Ever.

Also u need oil cooler. (Put it in the lower grille otherwise it covers the trans cooler. )

Diff doesn't overheat actually in 10speed like in manual.
Bring a leaf blower. Spray water in front and spray thw diff. It will.cool down 70f right away ☺

If you want ,pm me on IG. @italian_stang.
I can help you🙂

As far as things to do to your car goes, lighter wheels and good sticky tires are a must do. Makes a major difference.
As for the diff overheating, try using exhaust wrap on the exhaust around the diff area. I triple wrapped mine and have never had heat issues on track or autocross. It dropped the temp by 10 to 15 degrees even during normal driving compared to pre wrapped. I have a manual so can't help with the auto heat issues.

Overheating is a function of how fast and/or how hard you drive. For a novice going 6/10 you're not going to have any overheating issues. If you push it harder than that for sure, but it can be mitigated by short shifting under 7000rpm.

What's your experience like on track?

I'm not doubting you, but curious why you think that may be the case?

If you are a novice, you’re not going to be pushing the car enough to have any issues

It is a good question. I dont know the answer.. It depends I think that maybe 10speed absorbs more some of the load and heat less the diff? Also depends on the track you are.
Laguna seca uses more diff than track like willow springs.

auto diffs are aluminum and manual diffs are cast iron.

they don't make radiators out of cast iron :D

Isn’t the differential cast iron on the manual and aluminum on the auto ?

is there a difference as far as overheat tendency between LSD and torsen? I have torsen and never had any issues with it, but I tend to run in cooler temperatures and my home track isn't exactly heavy on rear diff.

I did not know that! I had to eventually add a cooler to my Torsen (6 speed car). I couldn't even get 15 minutes of time before getting the overheat message. That's why I was curious.

Usually changing the fluid to 75/140 and wrapping the pipes around the differential is doing the trick without having to add a cooler

Did the fluid, worked until I got faster and drove the car harder. Kept being a problem so I just bit the bullet and did it right. Sorry to hijack the thread.

i have an idea for a heat shield/air scoop but i'm not too motivated to get it done yet.
