Long Tubes with Flowmaster Outlaw

Been wanting to get some Kooks catted (high flow) long tubes to pair with my flowmaster outlaws. Only concern is it being too obnoxiously loud. Anyone know what kind of sound increase I'd be looking at?

Flowmasters are known for drone and being obnoxiously loud. I ran a pair on my 89 GT with mid length headers and an h-pipe and couldn’t stand it. I sold that car shortly thereafter.

Try them out though, you may like them. If you don’t, you can cut them out very carefully and install a quieter muffler like a Dynomax or something pretty cheaply and sell the Flowmasters to recoup a little of your money back.

This is stock vs Kooks LTH, hi flow cats, and ECU tune. Resonator and mufflers are stock. Personally, I'm not going any louder.

On the foxbodys they sound very good. The old pushrod 302's just sounded awesome to me. Lol. As much as I love the s550's, every exhaust combination to me at some point in the rpm range has a "clappy" sound. I'm not a fan of that. Back in the day I ran long tube's, Dr gas x pipes with dynomax race bullet mufflers with turndowns. The sound was pure joy! Lol

S550 with LTH and outlaws is insanely loud. Above 2k rpms your teeth want to rattle out. I had a friend with this setup and you basically needed earplugs for highway driving. I'd put it up there with Borla ATAKs and Corsa Xtreme levels of loud but with a ton of in cabin noise.

I ran that exact combo for a very short time. The result was obnoxiously loud, and I changed the mufflers out in less than 3 months. Drone was pretty irritating and the exhaust was too loud to talk or even hear any music.

Did you have just the outlaws before you added the headers or did you get it all done at once?

My Flowmasters on my 89 GT back in the day were probably the equivalent of having a howler monkey inside the car with me.

The drone can definitely be annoying. I work from home and really only drive it around town. IMO other than the drone it is by far the best sounding exhaust for the s550. Still sounds deep and mean without all the rasp the corsa extreme and borla atak have.

It’s easy enough to give it a try and swap to a different muffler if it doesn’t give you the sound that you’re looking for. I wonder if cutting the tops of the mufflers off, adding exhaust packing and then welding the tops back on would help to fine tune them and remove the drone?

I had Active Exhaust on my Bullitt and tbh, it sounded the best to me in quiet mode with LTHs and an X-pipe. I’ve since deleted the AE and installed a Steeda axle back and the car sounds great (not too loud or anything), but I just liked the softer tone with the AE mufflers. We all know that perfect sound when we hear it.

I had 1992 GT with flowmaster mufflers, BBK short headers, and a H pipe , I loved the sound. I have heard a lot of people say the Flowmasters are not great sounding on the newer models. I opted for Race Bullet mufflers by Dynomax. I like the sound myself. Not to loud, louder than stock especially with no resonator and X pipe.
