Hello

I've tried to search, but haven't found too much.

Does anyone have a build thread or some numbers on a gutted S550?

How much gutting would be necessary to get it down to ~2900lbs?

TIA

Ecoboost is reputed to be about 200 pounds lighter than GT. With all the lightweight parts I've got on my EB, I'm guessing I'm about 150-200 lighter than a stock EB. I don't expect I'll ever get down to 2900, though.

2900lbs is extreme.. more than 1,000lbs lost..

Thats nearly a 25% reduction in weight.

Are you talking about a street car? If its a track car, remove the doors, hood, trunk, all the the lights, remove the dash, airbags, all of the nav/radio, and you might be half way there lol. The car wouldnt be enjoyable to drive however.

Sub 2,900 would require serious weight reduction that wouldn’t suit a daily driven car.

Obvious stuff will be smaller and lighter wheels, removing rear/passenger seat, spare if equipped, a carbon fiber? hood, trunk, I’m sure there is some weight to save in the brakes, remove audio, muffler and resonator deletes, lighter flywheel.

You think an EB Mustang weighs 4000lbs or more? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!

EBs can't weigh much more than 3500lbs. Getting to 2900lbs could be done rather easily I'd guess.

Who said EcoBoost?

Just spit balling here.. a GT with average driver is 4,000lbs. An Eco is 500lbs less, but down 150hp compared to the GT. Despite the weight advantage, the eco still has a worse power:weight ratio.

I’d be curious to know how much weight would need to be lost on the already lighter Eco to have an equal power:weight to the heavier GT.

Quick at dirty math.. 2700lbs eco at 310hp equals 8.7. Same as the 4000lbs GT at 460hp.

I’m not going to create an excel doc to determine how much weight loss would be required for the eco to be at what point the power:rate would equal,
but I’d be curious to know.
I don't think he's talking 'with driver'. 3750 average GT, i love my car! Check out the 'what does it Weigh' sticky. easy.

The lightest S550 is the V6 at 3588 Lbs. I think you’d have to pay Speedkore $64,000.00 (thanks to Mustang_Puppy for the correction) and replace every panel to get that close to 3000Lbs. Would be a pretty sweet ride however.

In an episode of Jay Leno's Garage Speedkore in Wisconsin took a GT350 and replaced the entire body with carbon fiber and reportedly took off 500 lbs. They have replacement packages for Mustangs ranging from $5K to $64K. Say a base Ecoboost weighs about 3600 lbs, if you could do the top Speedkore package and take off 500 lbs from the body and include a carbon fiber driveshaft, rear seat delete and resonator delete exhaust and that would be just over 3000 lbs. There's probably a lot more that can be removed to get under that. There's a great way to spend $100K.

I live 20 minutes away from Speedkore and I've contacted them multiple times to verify their claims and I've gotten a serious run around. I don't buy their weight loss numbers for a second. The average F150 lost 500lbs, 700 at full tilt if there was enough sheet metal to replace. There is absolutely not the same amount of body panel area as an F150.

After some guesstimating calculator math, my EB should weigh somewhere around 3470lbs without me in it, and 3655 with my 185lb arse in it. And with 380hp (not stock), that should put me around 9.1hp/lb and 9.6hp/lb respectively. compared to a stock EB's 11.4hp/lb, not bad!! :)

I just Cat Scaled my 2018 GT base 300A, Performance pack 1, 10r80 auto, with between 1/2-3/4 tank of fuel. No weight reduction. 3800 lbs on the nose. Fyi.

Was that with you in it, or did you get out?
