Gloss black is better than satin or flat black in my book, the reflection from the gloss lets you see the wheel shape better. Flat black does remind me of the old steelies.

Wish I could get the Gloss Black PP 19 inchers on my automatic GT I'd like to order. :(
Gloss black looks way too cheap for me, kinda lame imo....

I've seen enough of these black wheels and the discussion back and forth. Where does everyone stand? If you vote in the poll you'll be forced to choose, no fence sitting! I'm on record that they're hideous. Looks like two black holes where the silver wheels should be. Or looks like painted black wheels on old cop car.

There is no way my car with black wheels looks anything remotely close to this

It really depends on the wheel, I think if your going to go with black, they should be a slightly more open design, something that lets the rotors and brake calipers show through.

One thing to consider is that just about every race car since the dawn of time, Nascar, Indy, F1, GT1, 2 etc has used black wheels. One of the reason for this is that in the beginning the paint was lighter then chrome, and it also cut back on glare for the other drivers.
Motorcycle race wheels, also majority black, and even bicycle racing wheels, black.

So IMO the black wheel signifies performance and racing, it's no frills, all business, it's not blingy or showy like polished or chrome.

I think one of the reasons they got a bad wrap was because a lot of people who couldn't afford nicer wheels started taking the hub caps off of their steel wheels, and that image was born. All they were trying to do was too make their cars look like the majority of race cars, with black wheels.

Now, I prefer black, but I'm not against polished, gray, or any other color on someones car, that's the great thing about having a choice. :-)

I hate all black wheels on a street driven car. Add some metal detail like an outer band, and I'm OK though.

I can almost guess a person’s age by whether they like black, polished, or chrome wheels.

Black wheels suck, eod. They make any car look like it has no wheels at all.

Ford is making a big mistake by putting out so many show cars with these annoying things on them. It puts a passive amount of people off from the car without them even knowing why exactly. Just put silver ones on every show car and make everybody happy. Those who have the poor taste of wanting black wheels can always be referred to the options list.

Opinionated much?

Jeeze...Poor taste? If you don't like them, say so. No need to act like a juvenile about it.

I am also sure, Ford, is making a huge mistake by showing some cars with the black wheels or annoying things? Don't you think they want people to see all the possible choices that can come on a car based on a PERSONS TASTE?

Cant stand black wheels, I feel like its a copout. You couldn't think of any better color or have something that requires a little maintenance. I don't think I would have black wheels on anything ever.

Here's something I've always wondered about; why does the chrome on my classic Cragar S/S rims look so deep and classy and the chrome on most modern wheels look cheap and blingtastic? Has the process changed? I am not a fan of the all black wheel, but even less so of cheap looking chrome. Sign me up for aluminum or other metal finishes, or black with aluminum.

Copout???
Most people, myself included, agonize at making the right decision on mods, and especially, wheels.
It's a personal opinion, I love WRXs done right, but I do not like the ridiculously huge rear spoiler on STIs.

Me: I REALLY LIKE BLACK WHEELS ON THE RIGHT CAR. Hell, I really like the black wheels we have on our NB TDI.

If done right, I like 'em ;)

I don't think it's any coincidence that the pics showing black wheels on a black car look better.

I think that there are a lot of factors that affect how good they look (to me). Wheels size, style, finish (gloss/flat/satin), the type of car they are on and its color all affect how much I like/dislike the look.

I think in some combinations of the above they look pretty decent, but if I have a choice, I will probably almost always opt for something besides black.
