Static compression is just a number now, the actual cylinder fill can be effectively less with the control of the valvetrain. Having a higher compression helps with combustion when you need it.Modern timing control and fueling make it possible.
A gen 2 from the factory is 11:1, so still what used to be considered high compression for boost.
Outside of Youtube you have guys like me that have their '18s boosted and have no issues. 93 pump gas making somewhere over 700 to the wheels and having tons of fun.
I got an 18 Three years no problems on the 2650
