I didn't use this feature for the first 6 months of ownership, but have since starting using it with just the warning (no assist). I like it, but sometimes it's a bit touchy. Would be nice if the settings allowed you to move from three vibrations of the steering wheel to one or two. Three is a bit excessive!

The system turns off when your turn signal is on.
Perhaps it does if you have it past the detent and the blinker is staying on. However, if you're just lifting the lever to blink without setting the latch on the switch, it doesn't, at least on mine.

The manual states, "The system can be temporarily suppressed at any time, by using the direction indicator."

I can't remember on mine, so I'll stay out of the detent and see what happens next time I'm out.

It doesn't make any sense to work that way but "stranger things have happened." Defeats the purpose of the 3 blink sequence specifically for the lane change.

I'll test this. I'm certain it has fought me when the signal was on, but I can't recall if it was in the detent or not.

Hard to make a full case for this truly being a good thing/fully thought out if it's that fussy.

No, I'm agreeing with you. I said to my wife last weekend while were driving that I can't understand why the system stays on if I've actuated the blinker.

Now, it may be that I'm responding as though it's the same as the lane warning system in my last BMW. That system shut off for 3 to 5 seconds anytime the blinker fired. Perhaps on the Mustang it's only off WHILE the blinker is firing, and I'm conditioned to expect a few seconds of off after I've signaled for the lane change.

Now I have to go test it again as well.

In the Mondeo (Fusion) and Kuga (Escape) the system shuts off for a few seconds as soon as the blinker is activated. You can see this on the instrument panel (the corresponding lane separator symbol turns grey when you touch the lever).
I'm not sure about the Mustang, but I would be surprised if it worked differently.
