I have a Kooks full competition green catted system including jet hot coated headers and 3" exhaust. The initial sound was great but now it's just a little too loud for me. The exhaust valves are non functional with this system so it's always in open mode.

I would like to put the original exhaust back on but unfortunately I only have the stock headers but missing the entire axle backs.

Long shot, but does anyone have the original axle backs that they would like to sell or trade? I know shipping would be a nightmare so looking for someone in the southern New England area.

You got rid of the stock axle backs? If you have them still i would take car to exhaust shop to reinstall the electronic cutouts while still keeping the entire system. I bet it would quiet it down closed.

No I never had them. The guy that I bought the car from...........tossed them in the dump!!!!! :( The electronics are still there but no valves in the mufflers.

I have been eyeing the kooks axle back in case the sound of my Shifteck cat deletes is too wild...but my car is at the dealer being looked at for oil consumption :/

If you feel like dealing with the logistics nightmare back and forth i might be willing to make that trade man.

There are aftermarket mufflers with the valves if you want to swap the mufflers.

The other thing you could do is stick on some resonators in the cat back. I'd suggest using a longer or shorter unit than the muffler to help ensure it resonates at a different rpm than the current setup.

Thanks for the offer but logistics of shipping from Maine would be a nightmare!

I haven't found any mufflers with valves. Do you know of any?

As far as the sound, although a pretty loud, they have a great sound and lower tone from outside of the car. It's from in the cabin that it drones to where you can't even listen to the radio. I think the 3" pipes may have something to do with the drone (and the headers). I also wear hearing aids so that may contribute to the problem. And yes, I have removed them and it's not much better.

Right now I have have a tentative deal to for picking up a complete take off exhaust system from a GT350. Hopefully they will be a little better. Plus they will have the valves.

Hmm yes. Kooks use a cheat system to trick the computer, but everything is still open. That's is why I kept my OEM mufflers.
I think the magnaflow mufflers have the active flaps, as well as the Borla system for Ford. Those are two options.

If you change that it should be good. I have the entire kook system sans their mufflers, and I have zero drone in the car.

How did you adapt the mufflers to the Kooks system?
