Keeping brake rotor "Hats" clean?

Is there any specific way to keep the brake Rotors clean? My new wheels are pretty "open" and show the rotors quite a bit, I sure dont want them to start getting an orange rusty look.

huh? The actual rotor or the hat part? The rotor is cast iron and will get surface rust when washed.

The hat can be painted to prevent that look.

Ahhh yes, the hat, thats what I meant. Oy my charger, they eventually became a orange rusty look. I was just wondering if there is a certain product to use to prevent that or having to paint

I'd think any high temp paint would do the trick just fine, as long as you don't get any on the actual braking surface, or block any internal cooling fins somehow.

Grill paint, or engine enamel, available at any auto part or hardware store.

FWIW, Centric rotors come e-coated, and it seems to hold up quite well. Not just the hats, but the whole rotor. Obviously, it wears off of the braking surface, but it stays on the hats and vanes. The entire rotor stays better looking longer. If you did the same thing with a high temp paint you'd get a similar result. Just make sure that you don't build up a thick layer.

I used Adams wheel cleaner and was surprised at the difference it made. I used a small bores hair brush to agitate the cleaner on the rotor hat.
My rotors had 4 seasons of driving and multiple track days on them so they were pretty bad but factory wheels hid this well.

That isn't really what we are talking about. He's talking about not forming rust on the friction surface of the rotor that is bare steel.
We are talking about the painted rotor hats getting discolored with brake dust and heat.

Yeah, I’ve blast this on the rotor & the “hat” never had issues with orange rust anywhere on the rotor. But then again I use various brushes to clean my wheels & never been in snow or inclement weather.

I use P&S Brake Buster. Brake Buster contains corrosion inhibitors that deposit a layer of protection on the wheel to protect from future corrosion.

Black or silver caliper paint and you will never nave issues.
