Interesting. So in the early days of the Mach 1, Ford was experimenting with decals to see what the audience thinks? I think how they ended up doing it is just right. Only thing Ford should have offered as an option is the shaker hood scoop IMO.
I think shaker is wrong for this body style. it needs NACA scoops like the 71-73.

Didn’t think about that. That would look cool, too!
so far the S550 is the only generation of mustang to not have a factory or aftermarket NACA hood. and I think it would look better on this mustang than any others since 71-73

I think it looks great and I like it on just one side. I get tired of seeing 100% identical Mach 1's.

Sorry JD, but the only Mustang to have a NACA Duct was the '69-'73 Shelby GT350's and GT500's. The Original Mach1's came with an option for the "shaker" scoop and the New Edge Mach1's I believe all cam with them.

They probably hand them out with the MT82. Let's hope the hat lasts longer :fingerscrossed: (As a former MT82 owner, I can joke about it )
Well, my mt82 is still kicking at over 100k miles 😉I got the hat a few months ago so we’ll see which one lasts longer. (Mt82 for the W) 🥰

I had to do something to stop her from stealing my hats.

Those Mach1 scoops aren't NACA Ducts, they are raised from the surface, NACA Ducts are completely flush. I work for the agency that NACA became and know their history, and the history of the NACA Duct design, Shelby Mustangs, not so much.
The picture of a "1972 GT350" I found was labeled wrong and I could only see the hood.

those are naca ducts by definition, they are flush with the center of the hood. they drop on the sides.

as for the purpose of this discussion as well, Ford refers to it as a NACA hood and always has. there are also many other vehicles with similar where it drops on one side of the scoop.

" Prior submerged inlet experiments showed poor pressure recovery due to the slow-moving boundary layer entering the inlet. The NACA design is believed to work because the combination of the gentle ramp angle and the curvature profile of the walls creates counter-rotating vortices which deflect the boundary layer away from the inlet and draws in the faster moving air, while avoiding the form drag and flow separation that can occur with protruding scoop designs. "

you would be hard pressed to say that that is not a submerged inlet.

However, more to the point, this design would look significantly better on the S550 than a shaker scoop does. I am surprised that no-one has produced such a hood yet.
