I've been running a JLT CAI and Lund FF tune for about six months now. Recently I've noticed that I was getting a bit of surging. Sometimes I would let off the throttle and I'd get surging and rev hang.

I decided to recheck my connections. Turns out I have put the MAF gasket (rubber seal piece) on the outside of the MAF housing haha, instead of on the inside. I rechecked my vacuum lines were tight and clicked into place. Rechecked security at the throttle body. Also noticed my air filter had come a bit loose so I tightened that back up.

So far it drives noticeably smoother. It feels smoother than stock. No surging or rev hang and shifts are much smoother. Also drives smoother at low speed. Hopefully that was the fix. Lesson learned is install your CAI correctly and make sure the MAF sensor housing is sealed.:headbonk:

I hate to admit this.......
When I had my JLT CAI, I had installed the MAF backwards or reversed. The car wouldn't even run properly at the very 1st startup. I realized my mistake, fixed it, and everything went just fine after that

Having a hard time visualizing what your talking about, do you have any pics of where the gasket was vs where it should be?

Hmmmmm. It's been a while I have to admit. I would say though that the "gasket" should be mounted on the MAF meter OUTSIDE of the meter itself. This way, it can "seal" against the intake tube. Does that make sense?

Yeah the gasket goes between the sensor and the JLT tube, cant imagine any way of the gasket going inside the tube itself.

Yeah the rubber gasket does not go on the inside of the intake tube.

What I meant was, I didn't slide it over the MAF housing so it would seal to the intake tube. I had it on the other side of the MAF housing where it was doing nothing HAHA.

I imagine this might've caused a small problem because with the MAF sensor not being sealed. Pretty dumb on my part. I had a hard time fixing it with the intake tube on the car now because less access to the bottom screw. Would've been easier to take the whole intake tube off but I didn't want to deal with reinstalling the whole kit.

Interesting thread. When I did my JLT intake last week I noticed that the MAF had a small ridge around the base such that it didn't really seat totally flat against the mounting face of the intake tube.

See in the pic of the stock air tube that there's a ridge into which the MAF lip sits into? The JLT doesn't have this ridge, so the MAF doesn't sit nice and flat. I assumed it was meant to be this way, hence the rubber gasket.

My mustang idles and runs fine, but if it did start having issues, this is the first place I'd look.

Reviving an old thread. I just installed my JLT and after studying it for quite a while, it looked to me like the MAF would seal better with only the OEM tiny o-ring type gasket instead of adding the gasket included with the JLT. The intake tube does have a slight groove for the OEM o ring to seal in, and it looked like stacking the JLT gasket wouldn’t seal as well. I left the supplied JLT gasket off and have not had any issues yet but will keep an eye on it.

I had the same issue when installing my JLT, since there was nothing mentioned in the instructions on whether to keep the OEM MAF o-ring on or remove it and only use the JLT supplied one  So I called JLT and they weren't sure and would get back to me, well that was 2 weeks ago and never heard back. I left the OEM o-ring on and slid the JLT over the top of it

I just had the same issue yesterday. So I just used the JLT supplied gasket, put it all together and went out to do some datalogging, Didn't have any issues.
