Nope, I didn't forget about that thread...just thought I'd add my thoughts here too. When I'm searching for info, the more threads I can find, the better.

The amp board is 3/4" MDF with a 1/4" roundover on all the holes. 8 or 9 coats of Krylon Gloss White spray paint and two coats of Rustoleum Gloss Clear Coat. Once all the wiring is done, I'll be adding some uprights to either side of the center amp to hold up the trunk floor panel. It'll kinda ruin the aesthetic, but better than a case of bottled water or something crushing my amps/wiring.

There's a countersunk hole under the center amp where the board will bolt to the spare tire hold down. The rack has feet, BTW. It actually sits on the tire well floor, about a 1/4" above the spare tire hold down.

Nice work! I was wondering how you got it so shiny. I was thinking it was PVC board.
I've seen a few of these amp rack installs that have ruined the ability for the trunk floor to support weight. Good to see you are planning for that.

You know what? I was going for that expanded PVC board look, like Mark on the YT Car Audio Fabrication channel uses. :) Thanks for the compliment! It took two days of spraying/waiting to dry/spraying to get it done...and the board still smells faintly of paint. Glad it isn't in the car yet.

I wanted expanded PVC originally but then I saw what it cost. I wasn't going to pay $50+ for a 2'x4' piece of the stuff. The rack is about 26" wide at its widest point, so a 2'x2' piece wouldn't work. The Lowes and HD near me only sell the long, narrow strips of the stuff for house siding.

I originally tried to just balance the board on the spare tire mount, thinking tightening the hold down bolt really well would hold it. It was a laughable failure. The board teeter-tottered all over the place. I tend to overthink things so I was trying to figure out the measurements I'd need to wedge the board against the walls of the tire well, but still be close enough to be able to bolt it to the hold down. After an hour of that my brain said "Just put feet on it and let it sit on the floor....DUH." Sometimes it takes my brain a while to kick in...

I'm happy to say that with it sitting on the floor and bolted in, it's rock solid. As I have Dynamat in the spare tire well, the feet even "dig into" the mat a little and that holds it in place even more. It's going to work out well, I think.

I follow his youtube channel. He does some amazingly clean work.

IIt's going to work out well, I think.
Looking forward to seeing you post more pictures as you progress.
