Issues training TPMS

So I've had my RTR Tech 7 wheel package from AM on for about 2 weeks now. I originally did not order the TPMS tool because some people said their's learned on their own. So I figured I would give it a shot and if they ended up needing to be trained, I'll order the tool. Of course with my luck, they didn't learn on their own and the light came on.

So I ordered the tool, and attempted to train it yesterday. Using videos I found online I was able to get to the point where it asks me to train the left front tire. I point the TPMS tool at the tire by the valve stem and hit the button, and nothing happens. Tried several times and cannot get the damn thing to sync the TPMS. Anyone have any pointers?

The 2015+ do relearn on their own. If they are not or if you're not getting them to relearn with the tool, it sounds like you may have the wrong frequency sensors installed. That would be my guess anyway.

Dumb question, and sorry if it is obvious, did you select to add the TPMS when making your wheel/tire combo from AM?

Lol yes, I selected to add them. Just double checked my order to make sure and yes I paid for the TPMS sensors. I sure hope they actually came with the wheel/tire setup...

Definitely on the odd side [MENTION=16646]Screwdgie[/MENTION] - Before we go ham and replace everything would you be inclined to drop be a Ford dealer to see if they're able to get them to learn?

If they're not I'm happy to have them replaced with another sensor. The last thing I want is for you to be unhappy rolling around with a (!) on your dash as well, that would irritate the hell out of me.

I drove about 30 miles for several days and solve the problem.

Screw - How many miles do you think you've put on them so far driving around?

A few hundred miles so far. I did some research and found on another forum people have had to deflate the tires and inflate to "wake" the tpms from sleep mode. I will give that a try this week and see if that's the issue

I have a 15' and changed wheels and tires with new ford sensors, been having the same problem as this. ill deflate mine as well and see what happens, been driving it this way for 3k miles, drives me crazy. Thanks

Just out of curiosity's sake any reason to not just keep the OEM sensors? I didn't order TPMS with my rims as I wanted to re-use my original sensors though I did buy the tool thinking I'd have to get them to sync, Knowing they re-learn on their own now I may have wasted the $50!

I had to buy a replacement sensor. It came attached to a valve stem. I installed it and could not get it to learn and the dash just displayed -- and said warning TPMS. I ended up having to take the tire back off the rim and unscrew the sensor from the stem and screw it back on. Almost like I need to break a seal for the sensor to turn on. not sure if AM has ever run into this or if they do this when mounting the tire in order to not damage the sensor. Its not necessary to remove the sensor to get the tire on and if it was used as a short cut like I did you can end up in the situation I was in.

If you plan to re-use the TPMS sensors from your old wheels, then you will have to pay a tire shop to unmount the tires to remove the sensors.

You will then need them to assemble your new wheel and tires (fitting the TPMS sensors at this time) , and balance them.

If you order a new wheel and tire combo from American Muscle you get free mounting and balancing. So it is far less hassle and more cost effective to just order them already assembled with new TPMS sensors so you can just unbox your new wheels and install them on your ride.

I already had It planned out I would have to have them unmount the tire and balance since I'm keeping my OEM tires until their bald, as I only have 6k miles on my car. Just ordered rims and the tool, however good Info to know that they'll have to take my sensors off and mount them on the new rims. :cheers:
