Is the 5.0 in our GTs an interference or non-interference engine? Just wondering, reading the factory instructions for setting the timing chains and if I recall it has you rotate the crank a revolution with one of the cam chains off the car. I would have thought rotating the crank without the cams hooked up would cause the pistons to hit the disconnected sides valves. Mostly just curious if anyone has some good technical info why or if I have something mixed up.
Thanks

It is an interference engine. In the 5 o'clock position +/- a bit, you can rotate the engine 1 revolution w/o hitting pistons/valves. And if you do time it incorrectly, you can move the cams (flat spot on the cam exists + big wrench) -- just be careful, but it is possible. I know this, because I did it.

Okay, I just read the article that was linked in the other thread. Says the Coyote engine is a free wheeling engine and that the valves and pistons cannot touch even if the chains break. This makes sense. Was wondering about an instructions someone said they found in SVT that said to rotate your crank 4 times after installing OPG and setting the timing to make sure nothing crashes. The more I thought about it, nothing's going to crash even if the timing is wrong because it's a non-interference engine.

Crap, then you have to go say this. Why do I have to worry about things like this. Doh.
