I've been reading that the stock intercooler is apparently very inefficient and that the hotter it gets outside, the more it heat soaks and causes the motor to pull power, so to speak.

Since my first mod is months (and maybe even a year) away, I wanna plan out what I wanna do. I wanna do an intercooler as my first mod. I would like to see what kind of a difference it would make on an otherwise stock car.

Is that a bad idea? Or should I just stick to the normal path (CAI, exhaust, tune, etc)

In my opinion, what good are other power mods if the car will get heat soak in a few gallops and it can not cool itself? I personally will go for the Tuner and FMIC when I get the money. Both seem to really benefit the car for consistency in power as well as bang for buck via the Tune.

This way, not only am I getting huge gains from the tune, the FMIC will allow me to run the car at consistent power as well as keeping it happy.

I just realized I restated that just with different words. Sorry. No coffee yet.

I'd get a tuner first then ic. Tuner is biggest bang for your buck and Transforms the car it's unreal how much better it is after a tune.

I have to respectfully disagree with these guys.

Personally, my early mod goals are based on max fun per buck. The biggest area for improvement on the ecobeast is the exhaust. There's no getting around it, stock exhaust is too quiet.

I'd say tuner next, but if you're going MAP you only get one free custom tune before you have to buy the additional etune for $250 so I'd get a few upgrades before I bought the accessport.

Defintely:
-catback (MAP, solo, magnaflow street)
-intercooler (MAP, levels, mishimoto)
-accessport w/ MAP tune
-springs (eibach, something else)
-suspension bits, maybe (steeda)
-MAP turbo kit
-etune (MAP)
-wheels

I see zero reason to drop 200-300 bucks on an intake for the shine factor when you could put in a drop in filter for a fraction of that and the same (minimal) hp gains.

I know what my mod route is, but I wanted to focus on an area that is detrimental to making good consistent power, and that is the stock intercooler. Yes the exhaust is very quiet, but it's not something that people are saying is detrimental to making good consistent power.

Suspension for me is out of the question. I like the stock ride height and stance, and I hate angling over speed bumps.

I happen to like the stock wheels, and the only change I would want to do is switch to better summer tires.

Intercooler and tuner are the two most important modifications you can do to the car. So doing it on a stock car is not a bad idea at all, it is an excellent idea!

Running the stock intercooler in 80°+ heat can pull up to 6° of timing which is worth about 25-40hp depending on your tune/setup. It only gets worse from there!

I did the tuner first because at the time it wasn't known that the STOCK intercooler was complete crap.

At the race track the IC was so heat soaked that I was getting a run for my money on the main straight by a bolt on Sentra Spec V.

It's crazy how high it gets. Temp got in to the 90's and I was seeing 130iat and 150 charge temps.
Ordered the Ic immediately. I want my power back!
