How much do you guys pay for insurance? I’m 30 years old, ‘15 GT and my ‘03 Honda Accord daily are all that I insure and I pay $170 a month through liberty mutual. I feel like that’s high?

I'm at 128 a month for my 17 and my 07 Malibu beater. I should go to the 6 month cycle that cuts about 30 a month off.

Geezzzz. I feel like I’m paying too much for
my 16 and a 12 vw golf at $300 monthly
with Geico. I don’t have any tickets or accidents. I used to pay like $60 monthly
for my vw back in NC.

Has to be the county where I live at. Even the property tax differs if I was to live in another county vs the one I’m at right now. I hate VA but I’m here for now.

Just way too many variables....

You need to have folks who also reside in your home state to reply to get somewhat of an idea - but Insurance Premiums vary so greatly leaving no real way to compare for a good deal...

Credit Ratings are used sometimes
Age of driver
Age of other possible drivers in household even if they don’t drive or are on another policy
Married vs Single
Geographic location plus Rural vs Urban
Type of vehicle security
Prior Insurance claims
DMV or Insurance points (in some States for a moving violation the driver will get dinged with DMV points on his/her license AND the Insurance Co. can also impose points too).

I mean, I could literally fill 3 pages or more with the variables...

——

Here are some tips to try and lower your rate:

1) The higher your chosen deductibles, the annual premium will decrease. Now, for some folks this may be a risky choice IF they cannot afford $X out of pocket cash in the event of a necessary event claim.

2) If you have a tracking device installed, such as LoJack - in some States you can qualify for a max discount of 25% off your comprehensive. Now this may not sound like a lot since it’s only applicable to a portion of your total rate HOWEVER, it does add up annually for a good savings. Plus the cost of the GPS tracking device install will pay for itself by the annual discount.

3) I’ve been told that if you have a medical plan through your employment (self employed or employee of any company), that an auto owner can save $$$ by opting out of the medical portion of the Auto Ins, Policy. I’m not sure how true this is, or how it works with regards to a future claim. Maybe if there are any Ins, Reps on here, they can add more info.

4) If the vehcile being insured is paid off (title in hand) and its an aged vehcile, you can just carry liability. Now of course again, this is a risky choice for some folks in the event of a future claim, because you’d be SOL if the car was stolen OR totaled and you’re found at fault...

5) BUNDLE your Insurance if possible. Many Ins. Co’s will offer discounts if you insure multi cars, or have your homeowners/auto/life insurance with the same Company.

6) Make your Underwriter aware of ANY and ALL possible discounts you can qualify for regarding vehcile security systems, etched glass, Military Service, Driving Courses taken, etc etc.

7) If you are insuring a Classic, Antique, Collector Car or what you consider to be an “Investment Car” on your regular Auto Policy —— STOP and price out the same policy coverage with a genuine Collector Car Insurance Company. You will get better coverage for less and make sure you insure it on an Agreed Value Policy! Agreed Value means, that if your vehcile is insured and valued at say a hypothetical $50k and there is a future total loss claim, you will be paid the Agreed Value of $50k - nothing more and nothing less. Many “standard” auto insurance policies do not have an Agreed Value for these type of vehicles. If you don’t see an actual Agreed Dollar Value in your Policy Declaration pages or in any written correspondence, guess what - it’s not insured at an Agreed Value and you WILL have to fight for a fair payout in the event of a total loss claim.
