The OBD2 info for gear doesn't seem to change for manual trans car as of now. I will speak with software designers to see if that can be added but the signals may just not be there for manual car. I haven't tried it on an auto car but it should work for them. It stays in P unless you go into reverse and you can see it briefly change to R before the backup camera clicks on.

No this is a different unit. The Tomtop doesn't have the same inputs, design, quality etc or of course the software this unit has.

I still dont have a good understanding of what this unit has to offer above and beyond the tomtop, which has a strong following, and it looks like the tomtop threads are showing updates and fixes that make that unit hard to beat... especially with a $300 price delta.

can we see some hard facts about what makes it better.

Technical specs, hardware and software specs. A sheet showing what each has and how this is worth 300 more.

Some examples:

The TomTop unit is 720p. Is this 1080 or 4K?

The TomTop is Windows CE, is this unit Android with full root access to be able to hack it.

For 300 more I'd like more than a blanket statement that the tomtop is cheap and this is better.

Tbh the only difference between this unit and Tomtop's is the software as an app and an interface, they both use Windows ce 6.0 and have a resolution of 800x600
And I wouldn't care about the CPU or ram size or anything like that as the interface the unit uses doesn't need that much of resources.

Its probably 720p. And most likely Windows CE with a new skin and custom programming to mimick Sync3. But just the customer support and a "glitch-free" system is worth the extra $300 dls. Those are fools dishing out $300 dls for the TomTop unit. Constantly waiting for updates and ways around the glitches. If I pay for something, I expect it to work properly, not PARTIALLY. Expecting much more than what has been said on this thread for $600 dls, is just dreaming. I think its a decent price if they deliver what's promised.

That is the big question! Software development is a tricky thing by itself.

Automotive application software is far more difficult, in my limited experience with talking to people that develop automotive software.

The hardware functions are the same but they're not identical, different ports and IOs etc so yes the software can run on a Tomtop unit since it's the same OS but you never know if it'll function as it was programmed to match the hardware drivers.
