I've seen threads beforehand and I know that some people say it's normal, some don't know. I just need honest opinions and real cold hard truth from s550 owners.

I'm coming to terms that these engines makes loads of noises as I've made other threads. I just want to know actual info on why or if this is tsb 19-2144, 20-2023 etc.

Kinda annoys me the amount of noises this engine makes but just a learning curve for sure.

My car has bbq tick, 2k rattle, etc. Just want to know if this is something to worry about.

Sounds like a normal gen 3 to me.
I don't hear any thumping or knocking.

I'm guessing by your camera placement that you're hearing the direct injection system.

if you wear ear buds or headphones you should be able to hear it better. There's another video on this forum of the noise. My car is acting kinda wonky recently and this is one of the things I've noticed. I'll get more data and videos tomorrow.

I'll also repost the video I'm talking about from another member and tag them.

I hear the thumping sound. I noticed it in my car during one of the first drives I had.

Not knowing all the engine's characteristics, I made note of it and never did anything about it. While I can hear the sound at idle, I cannot make it out as the RPMs increase. The sound is always there, and has never changed. I've had no mechanical issues. I consider it a characteristic of the engine.

There are at least four Coyote engine sounds I've become aware of:

- BBQ tick
- Injector tick
- Thumping at idle
- 2K rattle

I've noticed two Tremec sounds as well, depending on the gear and temps. No concerns with this piece of the drivetrain either.

While my DD is a different vendor and engine, its drivetrain has it's own characteristics. Cold, the engine makes all kinds of racket. Once warmed-up, it ticks like a precision time piece.

I can't describe the sense many of us develop over time. We can often define "good" sounds and "not-so-good" sounds. The ones I've made note of are "good" or normal: they display the same characteristics in the same conditions, temperatures and RPMs, never progressing to something else. There are no tells giving indications something is wrong.

Edit,

The other thread, there was a comment about exhaust pulses; that's a pretty good idea. At lower RPMs, lower frequencies, there will be more energy in each of those waves; it'll be more "bassy". At higher RPMs, higher frequencies, the sound would be more frequent, the waveform smoothing out, each individual wave being less pronounced; it'd be something more of a steady tone and less-noticeable with the engine winding up and the vehicle accelerating. Low frequency signals travel further and are much easier to distinguish than those that are higher. Closing my eyes helps while listening, so long as I'm not driving :crazy:while doing so.:giggle:

Perfect reply, thank you so much for this. I wasn't losing sleep, but just want some ears on if it's a characteristic. It took me a minute to come to terms with the others but this engine is a beast under some good load. 👍

If you have a tune, see if your tuner will raise the idle to 750 or so and that thumping sound will go away.

I'm all stock. I plan on getting 47lb injectors at some point for an e85 tune.
