Now it's as fast as a Ford GT? Wow, the hype is strong! You realize the C8 is quite a bit heavier and has ~150 less HP? Not sure how it becomes faster than the Ford GT. Is it the all season tires that make it so fast?

I agree people are going overboard.

Frankly I would love to have one if they had a manual transmission. I also wish they were about 500 lbs lighter. Or at least 300. For a mid engine all aluminum car with a tiny cabin, this thing is a PORKER.

Maybe the C9 will have better features and be set up more sporty. I was really thrilled when I first heard the announcement, but after thinking for a few days I think it might be another generation of Corvette to bypass.
From Car and Driver:
2019 FORD GT
Pumping out 647 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque, the V-6 is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In our testing, it launched the rear-wheel-drive GT to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds at 134 mph.

The extra weight and less horsepower seem to work ok. The Z06 version will probably embarrass the GT.

Alex makes some good points about the C8 in this video. Hopefully it presses Ford to match or exceed GMs offering to remain competitive for market share.
The last time Ford had a car to go up against the Corvette was the two seat Thunderbird in 1957. Ford does not play in the Corvette's space and I highly doubt it ever will. Will some future GT500 purchasers switch? Sure, most likely but so what. Ford will sell every GT500 they make (dealers might sit on some for awhile with ADM's). The Corvette will be strong out of the box because of limited supply. Once supply catches up to demand the C8 will fall back to where the C7 is now.

I wonder how many Ford GT owners will buy a C8. Bet a whole bunch of them.

Negative, last time Ford went toe to toe with a Corvette was in 2000/2001. Ford made the Cobra R to compete with the Z06. That next year (2002) GM bumped up the power of the z06 to 405hp. The Cobra R was a limited production run.
The z06 was still the better track car, hard to beat a 3000lb car when the mustang is what 35xxlbs, and they are pushing nearly identical HP.

You are correct. I should have said “with a regular production car”.

Too bad it still has the pushrods though.
Less moving parts, less weight, lower center of gravity, less complexity, more compact design, less things to go wrong...oh darn! What terrible things to be had!

EDIT: Weren't all of you just recently blowing your loads to the 7.3L in the 2020 Super Duty with PUSHRODS not too long ago?

Well depends on the person. Some people find the pushrod engine to be boring in comparison to the Coyote. Its personal preference. And no I dont care about a 7.3L truck engine in a Mustang.

Thank you.

So stupid. There's big bore Ford crate motors that already exist in the Ford Performance catalog for those who want to go that route.

They wouldn't buy one. They could buy one for every day of the week.

I guess I'm one of the few that is not smitten with the new C8. I have to cringe to get around that ass end. And then using the old LT pushrod technology. Meh. If you're gonna get a C8 and must have one...get the Z06 variant.
Wait. The base car comes with an LT? So... Basically Chevrolet finally built a competitor for the Pantera? :cwl:

The C8 is a “game changer”? Really? 495hp is considered “game changing”?
Horsepower =/= performance. With the ZR1 package it allegedly does 0-60mph in under 3-seconds in the 60-70k range. That is what’s game changing.
It very much reminds me of when Ford first unveiled the Coyote engine Mustang for the 2011 model-year and (at the time) it gave better-than M3/M4/RS5/C63 numbers for less than half the cost. It forced the German performance divisions to up their game and get their cars a good second faster to 60 and on the 1/4. IMO, we’re about to see a slew of 2-second cards in the next 5-years.
