My favorite story to tell all week (TL;DR at the bottom):
As I've mentioned before, I'm a career bartender and love when things like this happen.
Met a customer and we got to talking. Turns out he's a car guy too. Just took delivery of a custom ordered Focus ST.
Last Friday:
"Have you seen the new Mustang?"
"Yup, have had one ordered since May 26."
"Cool! Where did you order it at?"
"[local dealership]."
"Can I ask why you ordered there?"
"Sure, I believe in supporting my local dealership. Why?"
"Well, I work at [neighboring dealership] and I'm just wondering why you didn't order with us. Could I earn your business?"
"Sure, if you can get the exact same car delivered sooner than [local dealership] then you have my business!"
He walks in to my place yesterday.
"Well, I have some good news and great news. What do you want first?"
"Good."
"Good news is, we stock ordered a car identical to yours at the end of June."
"Great?"
"Great news is, it will be here at the end of the month."
My order from 5/26 hasn't even seen a VIN.
Canceled my old order, put a down payment and will be in my S550 before Halloween!
TL;DR:
It's NOT too late to shop around! Make consumerism and capitalism work for you! As opposed to a late November delivery, a chance conversation lead to a change in fortune for me. The bank had no issue with the change, and my local dealership just had to handle it. I'm anxious. I'm ready.
