I'm not very familiar with HPtuners, but why would I get this over say, the NGuage from Lund?

The MVPI2 is the tuning interface and software that allows you to tune the car on your own if you know how. You read the stock file and make the changes you want (on your laptop) and then load the modified tune in the car. The ngauge allows a tuning company to build a tune for you that you can load into the car without having to use the MVPI2 interface. If you go this route you cannot modify the tune on your own, the ngauge is used like an SCT X4 or siimilar device as far retrieving your stock tune and loading tune files.

If you have no previous tuning experience or are not highly motivated to learn, self tuning modern cars is not an easy task.
