Hey guys, I have a few questions on the RTD if anyone has used one. Can everything be done via phone app? Datalogging, flashing the vehicle's tune etc...... And then send the log to a tuner? Id like to be able to view datalogs that I dont want to send to the tuner on occasion.

Or do I need a laptop to datalog the car? Thanks for the help!

You can use VCM Suite to log and view yourself with the RTD... You will need a laptop.

You don't need a laptop if you are logging and sending to the tuner, or flashing tunes, for that, the phone will do.

^This. And you cant do both at the same time I dont believe. You can either connect laptop and log via cable or connect via bt and log through the phone. My MPVI2+ which is an unlocked version of the RTD does not do both and its the latest hardware before the MPVI3 came out.

Unless something changed, I had to use my PC for everything of any meaning. I wasn't a fan of the system - having to data log with the PC in the car sucked

Okay for instance, say if I datalogged via blue tooth with my phone. After Im done, Could I remove the RTD from the car and plug it into my work PC and also view the files? Or do I need to datalog on a laptop?

No the RTD is just a connection device. You would need to hook the connection device the RTD up to the laptop and record the log on VCM scanner while doing the log. Same as your phone is the record/log device (log only goes to the tuner) and the RTD is just the connection to the car.

As far as I know, no you cannot. You will need to log with the Laptop to view it yourself… maybe I am wrong, but as far as I know that’s how it works.

Ahhh Okay that makes more sense. Thank you! Hmm thats alittle dissapointing. What about the SCT X4? Can I datalog on the device only, and then connect the SCT to my work PC and view the datalogs? That may be better for me.

Not being able to send the logs to myself with the RTD is a bummer.

You can stand alone log with the MPVI3. Then review it in VCM scanner on the computer. But you’d need to buy that and more credits.

I unfortunately have no experience with the SCT device so I can’t help with that. I agree it is a pain to have to log with a laptop in the car vs the phone. Maybe there is a trick to sending the log to the tuner and yourself that we aren’t aware of but I completely agree it is nice to be able to view and check your own logs.

The tuner can send the log back to you after they pull the log file from TDN. That’s about it.

Got ya, okay thanks for the help.

Its been years since Ive used an SCT device (on my 2014 car) I cant remember if I was able to just log everything(essentially a log file) datalog on the sct, stop and save the log. Or if I needed a laptop to select the parameters

Yes, you can record one log on the X4 device. Then upload it to Livelink to view.
