Hey guys, have a new shifter ball, billet reverse lock and alcantara boot to install. I am trying to remove the chrome trim that the boot connects to but cant do it. It is flexing so much I am worried I am going to crack it. I am pulling it up, right is correct?>?

thanks!

I said screw it and broke mine. I then gooped it back together. It rattled a bit anyway. It is solid as a rock now.

It is easier to pull the whole top of the console and push the retaining clips from the bottom to remove the shift boot without braking it. MGW has a nice video of their shifter install that shows how to remove the console and shift boot.

I have always tried reaching under the clips to push them up as well after snapping mine, but a little glue and it is better than new.

This thing is a fragile pos piece of plastic. It is so thin around the edges that the clips are stronger then then actual frame. What a day, busted the console piece in 2 places and my car has no reverse due to the steeda billet lockout becoming un-clamped from the 3 clips around the white fac collar. No many how many times I seat it in and see the slips seated, it becomes unseated

I'll toss in another vote for just pulling up the entire center console. It's much easier and much lower risk of breaking anything. I've had mine apart 4-5 times now and haven't broken a thing doing it this way.

Safest way it to pull up the entire console then push out the clips holding the chrome trim from underneath.
