How to clean camshafts?

Water and ferrous metals = Rust especially if you don’t have a compressor to blast out and force dry every single water droplet.
You’ve mentioned Brake Clean a few times. It’s just not my personal choice for cutting down oil film and contaminants. Heck I’d use gasoline before dropping money on a case of aerosol Brake Clean.

That’s not a vapor degreaser.
It’s an Aqueous pressurized parts washer.
Get a larger disposable aluminum pan and find a portable compressor and clean them yourself with whatever solvent you choose.

What’s the difference between the pressure washer and the vaporizer? Is it just because of rust or are you thinking more contaminants?

I’ve always cleaned/soaked all internal engine parts with gasoline. Small engines, auto engines, racing 2/4 strokes etc.

Gasoline, brass wire brush, clean shop towels, rags and a compressor.

Not sure if this is still a shop thing, but back when I worked in an auto shop we had a unit with a pump, filter and a light that had a liquid flowing through it that could clean anything. Carbs, parts Etc. It was called “Safety Kleen” worked great.
