How many S550 Mustangs in UK?

So - I just had a stupid conversation with a guy

I came out of a shop to find him wandering around my Mustang and peering in through the window - admiring it not trying to steal it I must add!

He then went on to tell me "there were thousands of these - just in South Yorkshire alone - and they had lost all their "exclusivity" appeal - - very common now" he said!

No big deal - I dont really care what he thought anyway

But - it did get me to thinking ...

Does anyone know how many there are now in the UK? It might be interesting to compare the figures to other "common" cars ...

It's over 5000 I can tell you that for free... official numbers I've been trying for months to get it, ford don't want to let it out.

Originally they were only to ever do 2000 but it's become an easy sale for ford, so obviously mass selling/producing, that said, there's 200 or so sat in Zeebrugge waiting for buyers, Ford are either going to take a loss on them (soon) and ruin the market, or continue to try and hold off 18s, even my dealership are a trying to convince people to go for a my15-17 than a My18.

Subtract the latest number from the 2014 number and it will give you an idea. Ecoboosts have no pre S550 variant so we can see there are 1343 licensed as of last year.

howmanyleft is pretty shocking at tracking however:

Taking their numbers there was:
90 EBMs registered in 2015 (66man 24auto)
975 EBMs registered in 2016 (560man 415auto)
1343 EBMs registered in 2017 (816man 527 auto)

Making the total EBMs sold as of their data:
2408


Versus GT's (hard to decipher, but we'll take on face value)
1195 gt IN 2015 (THIS IS SOOO WRONG) (1092kman, 103auto)
3324 GT in 2016 (2370man, 954auto)
4643 GT in 2017 (3109man 1534auto)

Making the total V8s sold as of their data:
9162

Making the total combined sold at:
11570.


Now, I stated that 2015 was "sooo wrong", having been here, and knowing how many ships landed in the UK in 2015, of which each was holding around 30-60 cars, even if we assume that all that landed in 2015 were 60 cars per ship..... you'd be about 1000 cars away from howmanylefts' number. I even disagree with the EBMs numbers.

2015 there were literally less than 300 of the cars in the country. And not all of these were registered, some were held for '16 plates.

Also, I don't trust HML because in the mustang category theres - Mustang auto, eb, eb auto, gh turbo, ghia, ghia auto, glx hatch, gt, gt auto, svt cobra. If we totalled all the numbers up, it'd be way overstated.


I'll keep pestering ford for proper data, rather than the above tosh which is hyper inaccurate.

Defo far more common than they were before the S550's showed up. But not a common car by a long stretch.

Have they lost their exclusivity? Yea, maybe a little. Do I still adore them as much as I did before ownership - hells yea! To this day, I still get a little excited when I see one.

Would also love to know the numbers. 5000 feels about right to me for the 15's to 17's.

Edit: Quarters are split between UK-wide and GB-only, so take the left-most quarter. We account for 40% of all sales in Europe according to Car Sales Base.

For example:

2017 Q4 - 47

There's something covered in the filters that may explain it.

That said... The GT also includes EVERY NEW REGISTED NON S550.

I've seen more. I still flash or wave. Fewer wave back, so they're in the hands of everyday drivers now rather than the first wave of enthusiasts I think.

I updated my response. Left column is UK wide, right is GB only. These are dates of FIRST registration. The numbers of imports from previous model years are therefore negligible.

i know about 30 in doncaster alone!

it seems it fell just into the sweet spot for people wanting something "exclusive" but not able to afford the Audi of their dreams
