There is a big irritating rattle that seems to come from the left rear wheel area. I've been under the car a couple times, and everything I've checked so far has been tight.

The sound reminds me of when I had to tighten a shock top nut a little more on my last car. So I figured I'd check this one. But the magneride shock top has a plastic boot and wire covering the nut. So I'm unsure how to handle the situation for the mag shock.

Any suggestions on how to tighten this mag shock?

Do I remove the plastic cap and wire first? I was afraid to tug on that too much.
Yes, remove the cap first, it just snaps into the top of the shock mount. I just took mine off earlier this week and installed some Viking adjustable shocks.

So are you getting any errors since you disconnected your Magnaride
?

I did at first, receive DTC U0416 (Invalid Data Received From Vehicle A Dynamics Control Module), even after installing my SDE (Shock Delete Sensors). I then unplugged the nanny plug underneath the hood next to the air filter and hadn’t gotten the Suspension Fault Speed Limited to 80 MPH warning since.

Today, I reconnected the nanny plug and turned off Advance Trac via the switches in the car and still haven't gotten the warning. It appears that either option has been working so far. I should also note that I did take the car over 80 MPH for both tests.

Catch 22 situation now.

I tried to remove the shock completely, so I could then drive around the neighborhood and see if the rattle disappeared.

But I can't get the lower T to pull out through the lower control arm. No matter how I manipulate it, there is interference somewhere. I might have to disconnect the parking brake spiral spring and mount, but I'm afraid of any trickery required to get it reinstalled.

You have to remove the rear calipers to get the shocks out, as the parking brake spring on the caliper is what‘s preventing you from angling the shock over enough to remove it.

The torque spec. for the caliper mounting bolts is 85 ft-lbs. Use a little blue Loctite on the bolts.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but how did tightening the strut top nut work out for you? I also have a rattle in the rear of my magneride car, and tightening other bolts to spec seems to have no effect.

Ok. With a magnetic wrench?

I never got the top of the rear shock off.

It turned out that the sound was bad aftermarket toe link bearings seizing and releasing. I installed a different brand and all is good.
