I'm getting pretty frustrated with with my Mustang buying experience after the last few days.

I've tried Truecar, USAA, Edmunds, good old fashioned in person negotiation, and even tried to find a dealer that would accept X plan. So far the best price I've gotten is $3k above MSRP. I'm in Northern California, so I expect to pay a little extra, but its getting beyond ridiculous.

Every dealer I get an online quote from says "Oh, the car you were quoted on isn't in stock, but you can order this one for $8k more!".

Anyone got any advice for me? With all the prices I've seen floating around here I feel like I'm just going to the wrong dealerships. I'm almost at the point of giving up...

ABOVE MSRP? No way; something's wrong there. Other than for LE's, nobody's paying above MSRP. You're going to the wrong dealers. I talked to several dealers in a 100 mile radius before picking one an hour out of my way (with a half-dozen dealers in between here and there).

Now you can get a sense my frustration... Just a few hours I walked out on a dealer whos bottom offer was $38,500 on a base GT premium with no options.

I just brought in the X-plan spreadsheet found here on the forums and said this is what I want and how much am I going to pay. No haggling. Keep calling around and you'll find a dealer with the right price.

Hey Cooter I don't know what part of the bay you're at but there are a few dealers down in the south bay area that you should have no problem getting a stang with x-plan pricing from. Fremont Ford seems to be the best close to my area but there are a few others that are pretty good.

If you live in the North Bay, Henry Curtis Ford in Petaluma told me they would take X-Plan on an order.

Which dealers are you going to? I'm thinking about going to Walnut Creek Ford next month since I can walk there from work.

Good to know Fremont Ford takes X-plan

Why wouldn't they take x plan on an order? Isn't it basically free money for that dealer versus losing the customer? Even if they put it in higher priority than every other msrp+ order.
Some dealerships don't want to use up their allocations on X-plan orders. They make next to no money off of them and it might take up an allocation that they know they can get close to an MSRP sale (or over MSRP).

I've been to walnut creek ford. They are willing to sell at MSRP for cars on the lot, but they only have ecoboosts.

I understood that ordering a car on X plan gives them an extra order allocation, where as they might be less inclined to do in for a car already on the lot for reasons you said. Is that correct?

E mail every dealer within a 100 miles of you, ask them for their best price. Once you have a decent price(hopefully around dealer invoice) email every dealer within a 100 miles and tell them you have "x" price from a local dealer, can you beat it? Almost always they will ask you to come in...stick to your guns and tell them to give you their best price before anything else. Before you know it you will have the dealers battling each other for your business.

I have heard that as well. Also, X-Plan pays the dealer better than does an invoice deal, and the two prices are very close together. Glad to see you are getting dealer suggestions. If none of those work out, I can highly recommend Alan Lottinville at Silva Ford in Madera. X-Plan is no problem on orders, though they are trying to get more for their floored units. I was treated very honestly and fairly throughout the process, which was over four months for me since I ordered in July.

I bought my 2012 Boss 302 And my 50th LE from Fairfield Ford, I got good deals on both of them. The salesman I bought them from was Devin Abel, he's a good honest guy. Give him a call and tell Mark sent you. Here is his cell# (916) 517-5614. When I went to get my LE they had a good selection of Mustangs. Good Luck

No halfway decent sized dealer will ever turn down an X Plan order on a commodity product like a non SVT Mustang. It's a high production car, they would lose absolutely zero on putting in an order and just would pick up another added sale. All it is is an extra sale for the dealer that they wouldn't have had before. They can order as many Mustangs as they want virually and they would be delivered. You're either dealing with a tiny or unintelligent Ford dealership. Either way you can find an X Plan dealership in a hot second.

I just went on Fairfield Fords website and it looks like they have at least 12 GTs
