Looking to go FI on a 15 mustang with about 80k miles. What is the general opinion on doing this? Is it worth having the motor pulled and freshened up before install?

Fuck yeah!!!!

Build that bitch out with titanium con rods, unobtanium crank, every little bit tailored to your boost needs.....

But seriously....yeah.....look around for a company that builds boost-friendly Coyotes.

The 5.0 Coyote is a pretty solid platform. While mileage is important, how it was maintained is even more. I’ve broke down gen 1 & 2 with over 100K look better than some with just over 40k. Also it depends upon how much boost you’re gonna go too.

If you’re concerned, do a compression test. That’ll give you a good check on the health of your engine.

I personally wouldn’t worry about it. 80k is not high mileage and short of outright abuse or neglect there shouldn’t be any reason you couldn’t safely boost the engine.

I would focus more on the fuel system ensuring it’s in good health to keep up with the new demand.

Thank you for the replies.

One of the engine builders in my area said as much too. He was blown away that I would want any engine prep for boost with only 80k miles.

Yeah, agreed. I wouldn’t even think twice about it. These engines will hold plenty of power.. as long as their maintained, tuned properly and not purposely beat into the ground it’s unlikely there will be any issues.

Apples to oranges, but in my old 2V GT (4.6 engine) I started spraying nitrous at 140k on a bone stock engine. I went from a 75-125 shot and never had any ENGINE issues. Clutch and rear end are different, lol.

I would boost it and build it when necessary.

At 80k a maintained coyote will still be as good as new. Just run it and if it blows get a new gen3 short block for $1800
