im looking at a 2016 mustang gt premium pp. it was once modified and has bbk headers and an mbrp exhaust on it. now it looks like it had an ngauge because its missing the vent but thats not there anymore. so it does have a check engine and when i used the code reader the dealer had i was un able to pull the code and the car would die. as soon as i unplug the reader its fine but once i plug in the reader the reader wouldnt load and the car dies. im going back to check with a reader i have but im wondering if it could be a bigger issue like ecu related. any help would be much appreciated. im very excited to get into the mustang community

Edit: thanks to the help everyone I am not going to buy the car. Rather get something that won't give me any headaches.

Sounds like a basket case, I wouldn't go anywhere near it.

Well, could it have mods that require a tune? Perhaps it was re-flashed.

Although I'd be concerned the dealer hasn't reconditioned the car.

It has headers which need a tune I just think it's weird that the scanner is basically making the car turn off. I'm going to go back with a different scanner. I'm going to be getting an SCT anyway wonder if a proper tune would help

Is there an easy way to find how it was tuned? I'm just used to VAG tunes but they were typically tied to the VIN and you could get them re-flashed for just labor time.

Perhaps the missing nguage or something else that was pulled off the car is causing issues? Is the airbox stock?

This could give you a good opportunity to negotiate the price down.

Not that I'm aware of. I did manage to get the price down to 28k. I'm just worried I might have a much bigger issue to be worried about

For 28k you should be able to find a car with no issues. Personally, I would be looking for something that hasn't been modded (abused), and had a clean history. The wholesale value of that car is probably <20k, and you're potentially looking at thousands to set it right. Hard pass.

In my area (NYC) it's real difficult to find a great premium 6 speed for that price. It's actually the cheapest one on the market here. I don't like buying modified cars either but the car has 14k miles and is ridiculously clean inside and out. Obviously if I can't get something plugged into this obd port without the car stalling I won't buy it. Just seems weird that the car runs absolutely perfect. Doesn't seem like it's a big issue

I would say that you need to stop looking at that car. Don't walk, run away very quickly.......

You can get a base 2018 Mustang gt for $28k here in Texas. I personally wouldn't get that car... If it were me i'd be looking for a mustang that hasn't been modded (I like to mod it myself and do the work myself so i know it's done right.)

Good Luck!

I bet someone stole the N Gauge after it was traded in.
