So I've been competing with NASA in the wheel-2-wheel racing side for a couple years. But we won't have anyone in our class (thunder roadster) at the next event and I'd like try the time trial side with my mustang.

I need some help on classing for the TT with my mustang. I've read through the rule book quite a few times and can't land on specifically where I'll be...

Maybe someone here can help me out.

It's a 2016 Mustang GT Performance Pack, Recaro seats. Tires and wheels can vary (I have 4 sets from street tires to pirelli DH slicks).

Other mods:
Brake Pads/rotors: stock (amsoil dot 4 fluid)
Tires (Size & Model): Continental extremeContact Sport 285/35/19 on XXR 19x9.75 wheels (can change)
Suspension: Whiteline Coilovers, MM camber plates, BMR vertical links, BMR toe links, Whiteline swaybars
Other Mods: Amsoil trans/gear oil, MGW shifter, MBRP catback

I know I won't really be competetive with any cars that are fully prepped for the class, but would like to go and still have some fun.

The S550 is in a power to weight class. Most all other mods are unlimited. You will have to get a dyno(dynojet 248 I believe is the NASA approved dyno) and your weight, but you will fit in either TT4 or TT3.

Right, and ST3 & 4 are equivalent if you prefer racing over TT.

Might want to downsize to 275 tires as that gives a favorable adjustment, and use R compounds (no penalty, and obviously faster). Depending on how strong your engine is and how heavy you are, you might need to add a little weight to stay in TT4 with even a stock GT.

Well no safety equipment in my mustang, so no W2W racing lol. I do have a set of 275 Hankook RS-3 that I could mount up (obviously not as good as an R compound, but I have them sitting around).

Weight, I think I'm around 3680-90, and power is completely stock with a cat-back. I have never dynoed on a Dynojet before.

Thanks

Looks like some rule changes for 2018. So have a look (particularly the tire stuff).

Target power to weight is 10 lb/hp for TT3, and 12 for TT4.

But that is an averaged wheel HP, and a weight as raced (wet with driver).

Fitting into ST3 is going to mean almost stock weight and power. I am stock weight and just a Mishi intake tube and catback and I am 10.01:1 at just hp to the wheels, when going off their formula for power/weight, it gets a little better, but not much. Locally I would be killed if I tried to run with our TT3 guys. Then again, our TT2 guys are even better.
But back to theg power to weight math, you can get .5 back for being a fat pig, lol, .3 if you run the 275 and another .3 for 100 treadwear or greater and .4 for BTM(base trim model) aero. So in theory you can be at an 8.5 power to weight and still class into TT3. Dang, I might actually do that now, lol.

So for BTM aero you have to remove the PP front facia and splitter AND install the standard rear spoiler? Wait that's a base GT, what did the base V6 Mustang have in 2015 for "aero" ?

That's why I don't like the BTM rule and prefered the original OEM aero rule. Where if it was stock or optional, it was allowed.

To my knowledge it has to be the base version, aka no optional anything. And I believe it would be a base GT. But as typical NASA rules, there is not a mention of engine in BTM. There is also a line that says no spoiler and that mention is underlined. With the front splitter, I can see that slipping by unless your regional director knows about the S550. But if you set records and beat people, they may start to investigate your car and find that you do not have the base GT splitter. Like my region, I do not think would catch it. Especially since i would be fighting for like 3rd or 4th and never first. Nor would I be going to Nationals.

I was actually going to be in your region this weekend. But alas, it's not going to work out for me at Chuckwalla. Didn't get my tires mounted up, and also they said they were really busy this weekend and it would take some time to get my (and my buddies) car dynoed and classed.

So I will try again another time, when I can schedule my time better. But then I'll probably be driving my race car anyway, not the mustang lol.

Thanks for all the help everyone! :headbang:
