Help I screwed up. Over torqued filter.

I did this with mine as well. The up side is you don't have to worry about it coming loose

My concern was I may have pinched the gasket. Not worth taking the chance, albeit a small one.

Nah, just done oil changes on GT350s with the spin on filter about 20 times. Not rocket surgery, mate.

And I was joking so we can relax. Go vote.

I did the work on Sunday and could find no replacement filter as expected. Went to the stealership Monday and was charged $27 w/tax versus $13.80 from Rock Auto.

This was my 2nd DIY oil change and perhaps the biggest debacle of my life. The 1st went smoothly. In addition to the filter issue, this time I didn't follow what I had learned and spilled 2 qts of oil on my driveway because the catch container's hole was too small. The 1st time I drained the oil into an open catch can then moved the catch container over after the flow slowed. Monday I had to finish the oil change in the rain.

Hopefully this will be my last 5 hour oil change.

I have hammered a long screw driver through an oil filter before and used that to torque it off. Other than that, vice grips or channel lock FTW.

I got it loose with one of these. It destroyed the filter, but that was to be expected anyhow.

I have a 40 year old version of that I dusted off this summer to help a neighbor w his ,,,,Honda. It sure does destroy that filter.

Thanks for the reply w your malfunctioning torque wrench...Sucks that happened to you. Never thought of that being an issue. I paid through the nose for a couple of Protos off of Amazon when I first got my GT350. Good tools, no issues.

I had this happen on my last oil change. Was the closest I ever came to wanting to sell the car, that's how frustrated I was.

As @EF300 states, I drove a screwdriver through the filter and that helped get it moving. However, mine was on so tight that the screwdriver treatment alone wasn't enough. It actually started just ripping through the metal housing of the filter!!

So, what finally got it was an oil filter wrench (like this), combined with the screwdriver stabbing.

These irwin vice grips have saved me multiple times. These will take a tight filter right off when the filter wrench is slipping
