I was planning on getting an open faced helmet as I usually wear glasses, but most here recommend a full face one for safety. I don't plan on doing any actual racing, and am strictly a novice driver, but does anyone have a full face recommendation with a large eye port that works well with glasses?

This HJC H10 helmet I just got has tons of room right at the temples for glasses. I was kind of surprised, it was clearly a design consideration.

Or just go to a motorcycle or autosports retailer that stocks helmets and try a few on w/ your glasses. That's the best way to be sure.

Great, thanks. I want to get an SA rated helmet if I'm going to spend the money, but there aren't any places in Utah that stock any.

My glasses or sunglasses fit very well in my HJC AR10. I'd recommend that helmet if you're looking for an entry level full face.

Motorcycle shops will usually also have a few SA rated helmets. Utah is a big state. There's got to be an SA2020 rated helmet on a retail shelf somewhere.

I had a full face, and now I use open face. Some pros/cons with each.

With the open face, I have no sunglasses effect, so I need those. I had to buy the dark tinted visor for the full face helmet. Then I could flip it open or shut depending on whether I wanted sun shade or not.

My glasses are Oakley frames that are straight over the ears, which helps to "insert" them onto my face and into the side grooves in the helmet padding. Glasses with sides that curve behind the ears are tough to get on or off with the helmet on.

Next, I bought Cocoon clip-on polaroid sun filters. They make so many sizes and shapes that you are sure to find what fits your glasses best. These are great because 1) I am still wearing my progressive lenses for seeing up the track or looking down at the gauges, and 2) they come off easily for in between sessions. I bought these at Cabela's for $50.

Thanks, I have been struggling with which type of helmet to get. All my glasses have curved temples and I didn't realize how much more difficult even a slight curve makes. I just happened to see an ad for the Cocoons right before I saw your post; weird.

FWIW you can get a set of single vision lenses complete with frames for like $20 online. Buy a set just for your helmet. Doesn't matter if they look stupid.

Interesting, I didn't even think about that option, thanks.
