I'm wondering if my wife and I are simply too "unique" or if others suffer from this same frustration. With the headrest set in the most rearward tilt setting, it still props my head too far forward and after a short time my neck is hurting. And my wife has a physical condition that keeping proper posture with head erect helps alleviate some pain. Does anyone else feel like their head is pushed/tilted down forward too much?

My solution was to remove the headrests and reverse them, putting them in backwards... and my wife noted that it felt better with the headrests turned around.

...but the back of the headrest (which is now the front) has a built-in plastic coat hanger which is not too comfortable either when the back of my head rests against it. I did see a Fusion in a parking lot that looks like it uses the same headrest but without a coat hanger in the back and I am seriously considering looking into installing Fusion headrests in our Mustang and installing them backwards.

Obviously the best solution for us would be to figure out how to mod the headrests to tilt further back. Does anyone know if there is a way to do that?

Has anyone else thought about this? Or are we the only ones that wish the headrests could be tilted further back?

Not sure about the ecoboost, but my headrests are adjustable. They have several positions that "click" into place. Try pushing from the back. I have a premium, so it might be different.

Pull it towards the front of the car and it will reset to the back position.

Yes, I know that, it has several positions that click into place and can be reset to the rear by tilting all the way forward and releasing to tilt back... I am saying that even in the most rearward back position, that setting is still too far forward for us.

I can't fathom how this would be happening to you if it is set in the rear most postion.

I don't think my head has ever actually touched my headrest. I always thought of headrests as more of a safety device - there to help prevent whiplash in the event of an accident - vs. a part of the seat used daily.

Yes, this definitely happens to me. I tried every up / down and tilted combo I could and had no success. I've had the headrest turned around backwards for a year now since it was either that or take it out altogether. There is a post on the forum where someone took the headrest apart and shaved the interior down to make it thinner. I'm still thinking about doing that.

I am attaching a photo that will hopefully explain.

I have reversed the drivers headrest backwards; it does not touch my head unless I slightly lean back, which feels comfortable if I do so (except for the coat hanger hook in the headrest). The headrest is there, but not intrusive or uncomfortable.

The passenger headrest is in the original stock position and set at the rearmost tilt setting. You can see its base is set a couple of inches forward of the seat back and would contact the passenger's head about 4" forward of where the driver's reversed headrest does, and also will hold the passenger's head at a chin-lower angle to their body. In addition note that the passenger seat is tilted farther back than the driver's side seat is; if it was straightened up to the same angle as the driver's seat it would push the passenger's head even more forward / chin down. FWIW, the headrest tilt settings will click 10-12 times more forward than in the photo and at that angle would jam my chin completely down against my chest if I was sitting in the passenger seat... I have no idea who would use that angle setting. If this is normal to everyone else then I suppose I will accept that I am the one who is abbynormal :)

It would be great to be able to figure out some way to take the 10-12 tilt settings and rotate the whole shebang back a few clicks.... I think I could live with the rearmost setting being a few clicks further to the rear.

I don't think my head ever touches the rest, unless maybe i'm fully leaning back at a red light or something or while in traffic, so it really hasn't been an issue for me. I wondered what that plastic hook on the back was, I didn't realize it as a coat hook.

I had to go out and look at my seats to see if they are the same. Yes, they are. I've never noticed that before.
You could remove the head rests and bend the steel rods a few degrees. That would alter the angle of the head rest when it's back on the seat. Remeber the headrests are designed to ratchet forward in the event of a front or rear collision to help prevent whiplash type injuries. If you turned the head rest around and were ever in a collision I'll bet that coat hook would hurt hitting you in the back of the head.
Good luck.

Nailed it ^^^^

I know of people who have pulled the headrest out and used a table vise to bend the two rods that go down into the seat.

I would love to see a picture of you (the OP) sitting in the seat, because I can't understand how your head touches the headrest.

Possible expensive solution, maybe. Buy the ford racing recaros. I would sit in them before buying to see if they actually remedy your problem, just to double check. If you and your wife are really suffering this much in the stock seats this may be a viable option.
