Header Install

We are about 8-15 minutes to McKinney depending on traffic. My last car I bought from Eldorado Chevrolet. Thank you very much for the offer. I just might take ya up on offer. :thumbs:

Took me a solid 20 hours. Never done anything like this before, and I have big hands so some bolts were very, very difficult for me. My advice is some think gloves, I cut my hands up pretty bad.

LOL. Took me a minute to figure out "Thick Gloves" because thinking gloves would be awesome when doing work. :lol: Thanks for the heads up.

After getting the car in the air and the factory exhaust off, 6 hours on passenger side, 3 hours on drivers side. Only place I used an electric impact driver, was to run the studs on the head in and out a few times to clean out the threads. I wasn't sure how tight the header bolts needed to be, I tightened the crud out of them. Glad I didn't twist off any bolts or strip any threads.

How high do I need to raise car to insert headers from the bottom? And how long did putting car in air and pulling stock exhaust take? I plan on putting on jack stands and pulling stock exhaust on a friday after work then get a good nights sleep and starting fresh in the morning. I am not in a rush to screw this up. If it takes me a month it will get done correctly.

I plan on putting on jack stands and pulling stock exhaust on a friday after work then get a good nights sleep and starting fresh in the morning. I am not in a rush to screw this up. If it takes me a month it will get done correctly.

High enough so you can feel comfortable working. The headers won't be the issue, lots of room to negotiate those in and out once it's open. More about your ability to reach everything

I can do a full exhaust swap in 15/20 minutes. Actually doing one today and that's how much time I have planned for both up and down.

Gloves are a must as is a long sleeve shirt to protect your flesh. I used the mechanix slip on gloves as they thicker ones took up too much extra room you need and I had trouble feeling the bolts. But to each his own....

It's a big job, I have a post about it if you want to look it up, lots of tips from a few of us that did it at the same time. I spent about 5 hours on the passenger side one day then 3ish on the drivers the next to break up the install. Could have gone straight but my back had enough laying on the garage floor...

Getting the car in the air and taking off the stock catback took me about an hour. I raised the car a little too high, I had to reach a little higher than was comfortable. It was high enough that me on the creeper could slide under the front tire, but that did help a lot for different positions to get at different bolts. I put my jack under the transmission, and I could use my creeper for all of the install.
