Has Ford ever released smoked tail lights?

I second 69Mach1-395, there is a forum member on here who has a CS and a GT and he said when both cars are side by side, you can tell the CS lenses are definitely darker than the GT.

S197 2013/2014 seem to have had dark lights too, I knew someone who got pulled over just for the factory rears on a 2014 GT.

I honestly felt like the S550 tail lights were a step down from the s197. Sure the S550 is 3D and all that but I feel like the s197 tail lights looked better and were brighter and with the led back up lights integrated into the tail light it was a whole lot brighter. On S550 we just get the halogen bulb and reflector housing as a reverse light.

Why would they pull him over? Most states have the same law; Brakes lights must be visible from a distance of 500 feet. Seems pretty clear to me.

He won, it was just some cop who was just personally felt tail lights should appear red on exterior, probably used to earlier mustangs having red lens, nothing to do with illumination. Some clear tail lights from factory get mistook for aftermarket as well and get pulled over for unnecessarily.

Moisture in the tailights? I’m guessing someone disassembled them, sprayed a tint coating from the inside, and now the seal is compromised. Just a thought.

Thanks you all. I bought new lights, and they have the same texture on the outside (plastic, with the mold injection nubs visible). So perhaps it was darkened on the inside. That would explain the leak.

I thought about searching on here to see if photos of the car have been posted, but I think that would probably take too much time in perusing.
