Freeway off-ramp near my house almost a 360 and two lanes wide. When I use the outside lane I get a lot of what I can only explain as bouncing and it gets worse the deeper I get in the corner. I've tried the inside lane, and the bounce is much less severe. My previous car was a 2014 Ford Edge Limited with 20" wheel package and I could haul ass on that same off-ramp with no issues. Has, or is, anyone else experienced this, and if so, what can be done to eliminate / reduce this. It's actually quite unsettling and gives me the feeling the tire sidewall wants to buckle. I don't think it's tire related as it's done it on both my P-Zero's and the Conti. DWS-06's I got for the Fall / Winter / Early Spring.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Intersting.. non PP car? Im guessing base suspension and with 20s? My first guess is its just undersprung and underdamped. With 20s and extra unsprung weight and being on a heavy car my guess is the bounce is just the spring dealing with the weight and the shocks not being able to control it.

I have a stock EB PP. I've never experienced anything like this.

I'd consider springs and shocks.

when you say bounce, is the steering unstable, or is the car just bobbing up and down?

sounds like rear end wheel hop. give this a test in a parking lot and maybe have a buddy record what is happening. cut the wheel all the way to the left or right and accelerate in circles until you feel the hop. if that's the same feeling you get on the off ramp you narrowed it down. I believe BMR and steeda have several packages to reduce this or eliminate it in some cases

Yes, non PP car with 20's. I had a total knee replacement of the left knee that didn't go so well, so the 6-speed was out of the question.

Steering feels fine, the car is bobbing up and down, and the outside lane is much worse than if I'm on the inside lane.

It's funny, I thought having a non PP car would make for a smoother ride, and I'm probably going to have to change springs and shocks to tighten the car up. Didn't really have a choice though cause of the knee issue and PP cars only come with 6-speed.

I have a non-PP with 19's. The car feels under damped with very stiff springs compare to my previous car RX-8 with soft spring and over damped shocks its a different ride.
The back end likes to hop a little over medium bumps.

I think I have something similar, but I would describe it more as floating, rather than bounce. To me, bounce indicates a lack of damping in the shocks, and that definitely isn't my problem. Rather, it feels like the car gets light.

Case in point... I went to VIR a few weeks ago for an HPDE. Somewhere between an indicated 120 and 130 (and it was still pulling) the car actually felt as though it was being lifted off the ground, and it got real squirrelly. The condition shows up at much lower speeds, as well.

Yes, I know it's a convertible and as such has a certain amount of body flex. And it's not meant to be a track car. I probably won't ever approach those speeds again, but I wanted to see how it behaved at speed and under stress. Acceleration, braking and cornering were amazing, even with the stock sneakers (.9 g cornering, .8 braking, .6+ accel). Overall I couldn't be happier. :D

So I'm asking for some advice from folks who have actually experienced and solved this problem on their own 6th gen convertibles. How can I get the car settled down without compromising ride quality? I don't want to slam it, and don't want a harsh ride (I'm an old fart and my fat arthritic body appreciates some comfort). Vendor input is welcome, too!

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful replies and help!

I notice the same with my non PP GT. Lots of mid corner bounce when pushed hard. I will be throwing a set of coil overs on it soon, thats my advice to you. lol. good luck

The soft dampers in this car makes for not so confident cornering. I get noticeable float when pushing the car, and in multiple situations have had the butt get loose. It's not as bad as sra hop, but it's kinda scarry at 60-70mph. I haven't touched my suspension yet as I'm waiting for shocks to be developed. I only wanna do the install once.

I've got 20s/A6 setup as well, and found it pretty bouncy a lot of the time. I've added a pile of Steeda gear to the car (G-Trac, Strut Tower Brace, Street IRS Bushings, IRS Braces, Subframe Alignment Kit, IRS Subframe Bushings), and feel like a good bit of the bouncy feel is gone, but I haven't put in a whole lot of miles since I installed all that stuff.

It's better now than it was, but I'm not sure if a better set of shocks/struts wouldn't have given the same results - there just weren't any options available now so I pulled the trigger on the above stuff.

This is the reason I bought Steeda Progressive springs. And I just finished putting them on just over an hour ago.
Went for about a 10 mile drive and things feel much flatter now. Corners and curves feel more solid. Before I got a strong bouncy ride, and now the bumps are a little more pronounced, but the car doesn't react like it did before.
I still need to hit the alignment shop tomorrow morning, although it drives straight and perfect as it did before the spring swap.
BTW, Non PP car. 400A with manual trans.
