With your theory, and it is that, a theory, because offroad midpipes have been dyno proven to add power.... Would mean just that, the dyno and tuning results were null and void... But nevertheless they are proven facts..
My car, dyno proven, gained 3hp without cats on my full SW system. Removing cats is practically worthless on a modern car.

That's 3 runs with the cats on, 3 runs with the cats off and straight pipe in place. Average was about 3hp.

SW high-flows, admittedly. But they clean the smell up considerably when up to temperature and you can't see through them at all - only light. How much better do they flow than stock? Someone else will have to do the testing there. Not smelling gas going down the road was worth the 3hp hit for me...

It's my opinion that given the issues of our time, namely being pollution and climate change, it is irresponsible to gut or omit your cats for the 2-3 hp at the very top end. It may be a drop in the bucket, your car being only one of millions on the road, but I think it's a principle worth honoring.

I hate all the negative comments...if you guys feel that strongly you could have bought a prius instead of a mustang to help the environment! Hell, you could even sell your car and take city transportation or ride a bicycle!

All my experiences removing cats (on old and modern cars) provided a substancial improvemnt that was measurable on timeslips. A substancial improvement in sound and performance! Not talking 3hp here...how about 2 tenths and 2 mph, on a timeslip. Nobody races dynos!

Also, a tune adjustment is needed when removing the cats. Cat overtemp protection needs to be disabled among other things.

I'll tell you what I do feel strongly about, you spouting your bull shit (negativity) in the first paragraph of your feedback! Take a deep breath and loosen up your sphincter! :eyebulge:

What? Truth hurts? Ultra sensitive? Lol

Fact of the matter is if people really feel that way and so strong about it that they feel the need to post in this thread then they should be driving a gas sipper or something with a battery.

The title of this section is:

V8 5.0L Engine / Mods: Bolt-ons, Exhaust, Tuning

NOT

V8 5.0L Engine / Air Pollution and EPA Requirements

Seems like you didn't read the whole thread. Consensus that removing the cats really doesn't do much on modern cars and there is really no benefit to gutting the cats.

That is not accurate and opposite of what I've seen and experienced. My 12 GT gained 2 tenths and 2 mph, on a time slip. My 06 LS2 GTO had similar gains...both modern cars.

Seems like you didn't read my response. Also, people miss the point that tune changes are needed when going catless. Simply removing the cats and throwing it back on the dyno with no tune changes wouldn't yield optimum results.

Same thing happens when people throw a Boss IM on an 11-14 GT with no tune change and see drastic reduction in torque and power. Tune changes and shift point changes are needed to take advantage of the Boss IM.

You know, I keep hearing that, yet my wife's Intrepid was subjected to tailpipe sniffers as part of annual inspection as a resident of Duval county Florida, and one of my Mustangs was here in NC because the custom chip the tuner wrote and installed, a Sniper chip, disabled/made unreadable a number of emissions functions causing the vehicle to be flagged (did not fail) and be subjected to sniffers to measure actual combustion by-product levels....

Removing the cats is different than gutting them. AN OFF ROAD is worth with it.

While this is true, technically you're still violating federal laws. Enforcement is non-existant but you could still be facing fines and penalties if someone were determined enough.
Right...which leads me to these....specifically item #13 of **** RULES AND TERMS OF SERVICE. ****

and no I didn't report this post topic, just something to keep in mind.
I really don't care what people do to there own vehicles as it's not any my of business.
But it all changes when it's brought out in these forums.
