Smh...

Just another thread where the GM fanboys will get to accolade their parts bin car cause it's cheaper...

Guess if I had a bucket of parts I could build something cheap too. Smh...

All new chassis and design from the 2015 MY. How is it having a tough couple of years? The car is still very new.
Looks like I somehow managed to quote the wrong person on this post... Whoops.

In all reality, though, Chevy is kicking Fords butt in racing and in performance cars these days. I'm a Ford guy and bleed Ford Blue. I absolutely love my Mustang and would never trade it for a Camaro, but hands down, the new Camaro is a better car than the new Mustang.

The 2015 Mustang was a huge improvement, but the 2016 Camaro is said to be a revelation in the way that it drives.

No, a 1LE is not as special as a GT350 - no one is doubting that, but when it comes down to statistics, the 1LE is going to come dangerously close to giving the GT350 a good run for its money.

And on the racing front, Chevy has been dominating for years, while Ford just doesn't, except in Global Rallycross, which few people follow. They haven't had a relevant NASCAR program in at least a decade, they pulled out of drag racing, they pulled out of a factory WRC program. The new GT program is amazing, but it's only planned to last for two years.

Ford is doing awesome things in the hot hatch world, GM doesn't even play in that realm and they don't have anything or the Raptor, either. The Camaro and Corvette, though, are truly world class sports cars.

I'm a car guy before I'm a Mustang guy and I won't hesitate to admit when someone else has outdone Ford and right now, other than the GT350 (and I'm sure Chevy will have an answer for that, too), Mustang is lagging behind Camaro.

That's also one of the most memorable races in the history of Le Mans and set the tone for Ford for the next 50+ years. That race defined Ford as a brand and proved that you don't f*** with Ford because they will show you up. :ford:

What 3rd party testing outside of a Car&Driver journalist/editor?

Randy Pobst tested the GT350R vs the Z28 at Chuckwalla and was a little over a second faster in the GT350R: 1:57.87 vs 1:59.0

While each track will vary depending on track length and design (favoring each car's strengths), Randy's performance validates Ford's statement of:

"Specifically, the GT350R is good for lap times equal to the hundredth of a second compared to the $130,000-priced 911 GT3, and over a second quicker than the Chevy Camaro Z/28."

So i'm more inclined to believe Ford's statment that the 350TP is as fast as a C7 Z51.
The car and driver editor counts as a third party source. I would like to see more comparisons, but the fact is that someone other than Ford drove the stingray z51 and a gt350TP and the z51 was faster in all metrics.

I'd love to see Randy test the two, and his comments about the 350TP relating to the R was that it was a great car but don't drive the R first. That tells me it isn't as buttoned down and tight, which makes sense. We just don't know how much time is given up between the two.

Ford being correct about the R is great. But that's a different car. Just because I say the sky is blue and the grass is purple doesn't mean that both statements are right even though I got the sky part right. I want to see more testing of the z51 vette vs the 350TP because one of those two will be my next car more than likely. It wouldn't tip the scales in either way, but it'd be good to know.

You take the best chasis from Cadillac and the best performance parts from Corvette and you have a pretty good car. Those divisions did all the R&D work and cost. Time tested parts and revised engineering is the answer to a fast reliable car. The 14 Corvette had its problems and the Camaro took those re-engineered parts from the bin. What's wrong with that.

Chevy says the 2016 1LE V6 will run with last year's 1LE V8 - and that the 2016 iLE V8 is considerably faster on the track than last year's model. On some tracks, the 1LE will beat the GT 350.
Actually didn't GM say it'll outrun the 5th gen SS but not the 1LE? Let's be honest though, a 1SS or 2SS Zeta chassis is not exactly very good on the track. It's incredibly sloppy unless it has the 1LE Package.

I don't hold C&D lap times in very high regard. Especially their highly flawwed Lightning Lap test procedures.

I also saw a spec miata pass a Ferrari 458 on track. I don't draw any conclusions based off that any more than I do C&D lap times.

I agree. They don't get proper time to acclimate to each vehicle in the lightning lap. I also say the c&d article isn't the end all be all. I want to see more tests.

I love miatas and will grab an nb or nd eventually but that's a whole other discussion.

Looks like the fanbois and magazine racers are out in full force this morning!

And no way will this package add only $3500 over the base 1SS, the brakes, magneride, and dual mode exhaust options alone already push it over 5k. Add in the aero, wheels/tires and other tidbits and this is going to easily be a 45k+ car

Is there a time for a stock gen 5 1le at big willow? If so we can subtract 3 seconds from that and we will roughly have the time of the gen 6 1LE. Then we can compare that to the GT350 and the GT350TP at Big Willow. Does anyone know any times of the 350 at willow? Of course this is all relative (different driver, day, conditions, etc). Both of these cars are so badass I can't believe it.

Let alone they use multiple drivers of GREATLY varying ability (seconds) or track condition changes throughout the day (seconds).

Exactly! It produced the 1LE which is supposed to be the competitor to the GTPP, even though it kicks the s^%$ out of it in every performance metric known to man! A car that will most certainly hang with if not beat a GT350TP and likely at no less than $15K savings.

Come on man, what is really important here? You want to be brand loyal to a fault, go for it. But I can be just as fast for way less because I owe no car manufacturer ANYTHING except the asking price on my next purchase.
