I wouldn't swap that driveshaft. Ford was looking for ounces to cut on the GT350 and they put a 13lb CF DS in the GT500. I don't think that 45lb two piece DS is in the GT350 to save a few bucks ;)

It has a front aluminum bumper support already and the R has both front and rear.

The R is 130lbs lighter by eliminating the AC, stereo, rear seats and some sound deadening and carpet. 60 of those lbs are the CF wheels so only 70 lbs available there and you can get 40 of those lbs with lightweight aluminum wheels.
Both have the same bumpers

Was that another last minute change? From the initial ordering guide story.....

. Weight Loss:*The GT350R is serious about dropping weight. We knew that ordering one meant forgoing an audio system and air conditioning, but the order guide made a few more weight concessions clear. You also lose the floor mats and the tire mobility kit, so you might wanna have AAA in case you get a flat on the way to the race track. Even more interesting is that the R gets an aluminum rear bumper bar. We can see this being a popular upgrade item for any S550.

They had a link where they weighed a 2016 1SS with almost a full tank

wow 3668 for the Camaro, you could get that car under 3600 with some work. I hate that Ford didn't do more with the Mustang for weight reduction. I'm not sure this platform has the potential to meet the Camaro weight wise, and the numbers show how important weight is.
How much potential weight loss is out there if ford goes more aluminum like they did with the f150?

Hard to say, but I'd guess 200-300lbs.

The S550 grew in size and got bulkier. GM slimmed down the Camaro in every way including body lines.

They "car manufacturers " are also starting to use aluminum wiring over copper to reduce weight.

reviewers said the new camaro feels claustrophobic compared to the mustang. Worthwhile sacrifice to not feel like youre sitting in an economy class seat on a plane

I don't feel claustrophobic in my 3400lb 370Z. Granted I don't have back seats, but that's also in a car chassis that's 6-7 years old at this point.

Caddy aluminum chassis is where the Camaro save about 200lbs.

True. I hated the fifth gen interior enough, and everyone says little or nothing has been done to help that.

Totally different layout. The Z feels much more spacious and is easier to see out of than a Camaro.

So who has the lightest S550 and what did they do to lighten it? I thought I read on here of a GT that was under 3500lbs. Anyone?

I think the base is listed at about 30lbs. lighter. So, 3,760-3,770lbs.

And then what happens when Ford pushes 3600 and then Chevy 3550 the following year? More exotic materials will need to be employed and the cost will go up.

I'm ok with how these cars perform at the price point they're at.

Lighter weight doesn't always equal better performance...
