I'm sure a few of you are aware that I am having excessive oil usage with my GT350/Voodoo engine.

I took it in about a month ago and did a leakdown test and it came back that I was using about a quart every 800-900 miles. I was told that I needed a new engine and it would be a lengthy process. I basically said I was aware of that and had some concerns about a few things so my dealer (who has been great) through all of this directed me to open a case with Ford Customer Service, which I did.

Fast forward a month or so and I get a call last Friday from my dealer. They tell me that Ford is not going to replace the engine because they think the new one will do the exact same thing. They also say that they "may have a fix for it next spring." With no timetable as to when "spring" was by their definition. They also admit that they do not know where the oil is going or why it is using so much. Also, that they are aware that this is a widespread issue with the Voodoo apparently.

Today, I talked to my regional rep. It was very cordial, but all she could offer me was an extended maintenance plan for oil changes etc. I told her it doesn't need oil changes as I just have to add oil and I already have the same plan through my dealer. I asked if that was all she could do for me and said yes. She asked what I wanted and I said I wanted them to buy the car back since it is obvious they have no idea how to fix it and are not in a hurry to do so. She basically said that that was out of the question.

So, the biggest thing I am frustrated with is that they know it is a problem and have no idea/no timetable on when they will come up with a fix. I am extremely disappointed that I have to check the oil every 200 miles because I don't trust that it won't run out sooner. I also believe this could be a safety issue.

After also having a leak fixed because there was a hole in the weather stripping from the factory.......I don't have a lot of confidence with Ford or this car. Which, really sucks because it is the most exciting/fun car I've ever owned up to this point. Ford, you guys are so close to getting all together, but can't quite get over the hump with QC and CS.

At this point I am going to contact a lemon law lawyer for the first time in my life and see where that goes. I let my Ford rep know this and she was unphased by it. I don't mean it as a threat, but their treament of this problem is completely unacceptable to me.

If anybody has advice or would like to add their experiences with this issue have at it.

Thanks,

Considering they have entered into a contract with you for the warranty and sale of the vehicle, plus the must abide by warranty laws, I can imagine they will lose this one. It's no different on a smaller scale than having a Samsung Note 7. It explodes and Samsung says "Well it exploded, we don't know why but we will by next April. We will get back to you". You're out of 700 dollars for a half year.

On this larger scales it's no different. Ford will have to buy these cars back. It's a shame because more than likely they'll get crushed.

Thanks,
You should check into your states respective "lemon laws". In most lemon law states, if you have a non-correctable and documented issue with a vehicle within a certain period of time, they by law will have to buy it back.

Ironically, GM bought my WS6 f-body Trans Am back from me years ago under the lemon law and for....yep, my ongoing Oil consumption issue. LS1 engine back then. Oil consumption in high performance engines with aggressive driving is nothing new...I cared about it a lot more back then since I was only in my 20s. Now I just top off the oil if it needs it. Nature of the beast.

I'm contacting a couple of different lawyers for a free consult so I'll see what they think.

If I was in my twenties, I actually might not care as much. It isn't a stable loss and it seems to be accelerating in the rate it uses it. Also, I'm in my 40s married/kid and I really don't want to have to check my oil every three days on a brand new car. Especially this engine. It isn't the easiest to check on, especially when it is fairly warm.

I also really don't want whatever is going on to get worse and leave me stranded somewhere. I have had a few high performance cars that used no oil. So I don't think it is as much or should be the nature of the beast in today's cars.

how fast does it use a quart of oil ? The first post indicates every 800-900 miles.
That is correct for now. But, like I said it seems to be accelerating in usage and on advice from my dealer (plus my own common sense) I check it about every 200 miles.

do they provide more specific results for the leakdown test? Per cylinder?

https://mobiloil.com/en/article/car-maintenance/car-maintenance-archive/how-to-do-a-leakdown-test
Three steps on how to do an engine leakdown test

Reading results
No engine will have perfect sealing with 0 percent loss. Five to 10 percent loss indicates an engine in great to good running order. An engine between 10 and 20 percent can still run OK, but it’ll be time to keep an eye (or ear) on things. Above 20 percent loss and it may be time for a teardown and rebuild. Thirty percent? Major problems. The percent of leakage should also be consistent across the cylinders. Any great differences indicate a problem in that cylinder.

Nope, no details besides what I've said in my OP.

Next thing I would do is request they provide you the loss data, per cylinder, so you can compare that to that mobile one posting.
No offense, but why? I really don't care about the particulars. I only care if they can fix it and when. Right now they can't and really zero have idea if they can or when.

I buy brand new cars so I don't have to worry about the particulars since it is under warranty etc.

At least get the data for M6G. Some of us want to know !
I'll try, but all I get is the runaround and they are very tight lipped about info. Even before I said I was going to look into lemoning it, which was today. They either truly do not know what the problem is or are keeping the info to themselves for whatever reason.

maybe they will provide that if you specifically ask. Call them, and ask " I would like the leak down test results please". Loss, per cylinder. If they are not willing to provide that, then that is suspicious.

It would be interesting to know if all cylinders are the same, or if its just one of them that is a problem.

I agree with you that the lawyer/buyback route is the way to go. This car is so fun it shouldn't get spoiled worrying about oil usage. There are plenty of us out there that have no oil consumption for 1000's of miles. Good luck OP.

I'm sorry you're having this issue. Can you give us as many details as possible regarding your break in? Did you baby it? Drive it like you stole it?
