im torn between this and staying with the stock box. I know that this will suck in more air, but im seeing amazing temps out of the stock one. I am actually working with a friend to develop an air dam that connects to the grill so it forces more air into the box.
You might want to open the stock grill on that side. I did this with my car and took a dermal and cut open all the holes that were blocking air from getting to the stock air box.

Plus on a side note a few people have asked about the MMR kit I have. My friend is probably going to be taking it back. So sorry I haven't got back to anyone p.m.s

From your description can't tell what you are trying to build but the stock air box is already piped directly to holes in the grill.

I got great IATs around 70 degrees but when it's over 80 into the 90s I go from 4-5 over to upwards of 9 over.
P4RKER, thanks for the write up. IAT's seem good. As good as stock if I compare to my stock numbers. I'm guessing it goes over 100 when sitting idle at a stoplight in 80 degree ambient. Let me know other wise.
Looking forward to any improvements over the next few days. Overall I think its a go. :D

Will you be able to post a video? I'm really interested in the sound... MMRs CAI for the ecoboost sounds awesome, but I can't find anything for the GT.

Yes static is fine... I'm a huge fan of the whistling swish that CAIs can make under acceleration and am hoping this has that. (Based on your review it sounds like it does, but want to hear it too)

Those are actually my stock IATs. I am still monitoring with the new setup before I report out. So far they are slightly better than stock but the big difference is how quickly they drop after sitting idle on a hot day.

P4ARKER, how was removing the sound tube? Did you just leave it off the cai or remove it completely?

*Edit* I just re-looked at your pics. Looks like you removed it completely. Was is relatively easy removal. Sound in cabin change much?

I'm not P4ARKER, but I removed mine and didn't really notice that big of a change (I have a Catback which plays a role I'm sure)

My advice if you do it is instead of trying to unbolt it from the firewall just yank it off. It's plastic and will eventually stretch off. Too many members spent lots of time and frustration on something that took me 10 minutes to yank off lol.

Also, I went to Lowes and bought plugs for both my stock air box and the firewall total cost under $5.00

Really. Sound like the better way. No damage to the FW?
What size were the plugs you bought. No biggie I can prob figure that out.
Great info. Thanks Man!!:headbang:

Nope, get in there with a flashlight and you will be able to see what I'm talking about. Just know that the section of the soundtibe that's bolted to the car is plastic and as you tourqe and pull on it you will easily stretch it off.

I went and measured and it's 3/4 for airbox and an inch for the firewall. Also, I bought a couple of options and the best ones were rubber plugs that you wedge in the holes. They were located in the hardware isle in a specialty section.

Here's a pic for reference.

I have been monitoring my new setup for a few days and now that the engine is settling down with the new airflow I am seeing very good results in the air temps. Today it was 91 and I sat in terrible traffic on the Dream Cruise. My IAT got up over 150 at one point (~91F ambient) when I got cruising about 40 it dropped in seconds to about 100. By the time I hit the on ramp i was at 97 and at cruise speed I settled at 94. My stock box usually ran about 9 over so the drop to 3 over was noticeable in this 90 degree weather. Engine wanted to Rev high much easier and RPMs shot up like I've never seen even with the stock coyote being a fun rev engine.

On a side note I think I am coming out of the ECU adapting period. It went bad both ways before settling in the middle. First few days it would push extra power randomly and made it difficult to handle if pushing through a hard turn and made digs very interesting with the random spikes. The last two days it went the opposite and almost felt like the car was about to stall. Almost actually stalled pulling out of the gas station yesterday. Was at half throttle with no response then finally roared to life and lit up the tires. This morning I had a few times under hard acceleration that it would periodically lag mid gears to the point my wife asked if the car was ok.

This afternoon I fired it up and she roared no problem. I gave her several good pulls including a few very hard digs with no resistance. Engine seems to be firing normally again. Given the drastic changes the last few days nit sure if it's any faster (wife says it is) but it sounds and looks fantastic. I cannot wait for the tune to really open this up!

Initial install: 8/11 late night
Periodic power spikes: 8/11-8/13
Periodic power lag: 8/14-8/15 morning
Balance restored: 8/15 afternoon

4-5 days of nervous driving has paid off!
Great review and follow up! I was on the fence, but all your info made the diff. Looks like temps are just as good or slightly better than my stock now. Ultimately I am not losing anything except a few LBs and the ugly stock box (and sound tube imho). On the other end, I'm gaining a cool ass CAI and, esp with a tune, a few HP/responsiveness. Now my biggest decision is to go with base finish (which looks like a polished aluminum) or race red. P4ARKER you should get a commission of the sale! ;)

Any chance you can take the outside video of static revs? If not it's not a big deal just sorting through my CAI options.

I've messaged MMR for the same thing and you've been way more responsive lol

I jumped on the train! IAT numbers are amazing, I've been at outside temp to 3 above!! I did remove the foglight and make a heat shield/ram guide from the stock grill inlet.
