What grade of fuel do GT owners use? Just got mine and the dealer filled with 87 octane. Thought all along it was supposed to be premium. I checked my owner's manual which said it was set-up for 87. The next page recommended premium especially on hot days. So, the computer adjusts timing to the grade being used. Besides realizing premium would give more power, are there issues with not using it?

Your giving up a very small percentage of power by not running 93.

Does it get better fuel economy with premium though? If so, premium might actually be cheaper to run.

Pre 18 guys are probably ok. Personally @12.0:1 I’d run 93. Dealer put 87 in my brothers 18 and you could tell a difference. It was “pinging” and shit. I doubt if it was detonating or anything, but still

Buys a GT Cheaps out on fuel. This besides oil and coolant is the very most important thing for your engine. It’s not just about extra power. It’s protection against detonation. 87 would probably be ok since the people that engineered the engine says so but I wouldn’t use it. I use 93 in my lawn mower

Not cheaping out on fuel. Have four other cars burning premium. Given the statement in the owner's manual, just asking a freakn' question!

Fuel is like religion, you can’t reason with some people.

If I am going on a long, multi-hour drive where it's most if not all interstate miles and I'm just cruising at 70-75 mph, then I run 87 octane gas as premium fuel would give me or my car absolutely no benefit whatsoever in that scenario. But if I knew I was likely to do some "hooning", I would put premium, 91+ octane in the tank.

Since I only drive my GT about 4-5 times a year, I almost always have 93 octane in the tank. But if I were commuting in it everyday, then it would be stoopid to be sitting in traffic idling away 93.

Disclaimer, Gen 1 Coyote. Below is a dyno graph showing the difference between 87 octane and 93 octane. According to the shop, no other changes were made to the car/tune/etc. Similar weather for both passes, carat normal operating temperatures.

Note: 6 RWHP peak difference. Not that much, but look at the difference in the mid range, especially 4500-6000 rpm. Looks to be ~20 RWHP difference in places (corresponding increase in torque, of course).
