I'm one of the unlucky people that's had problems with the MT82 from day one. I miss my Tremec TR6060.

There are many unlucky ones, look at all the band aids manufactured for the mt-82 just so you can get it near what its suppose to be. (To the other guys that want to join the chinese army) Look at all the swaps that end up being mt-82 to tremec or auto. I bet if you could add up the swaps done between 2011- and now getting rid of the mt-82 it would be the most swapped trans in mustang history. I never heard of a guy who wanted to go from an auto to a manual and then added an mt-82... It just doesnt happen they go tremec. The tremec magnum xl is by far the best shifting tranny out there. Hows that morning cold 1st to 2nd gear nibble treating ya, or the clutch pedal sticking to the floor at high rpm. What about the clunking between shifts and the internal gear whine...the list goes on and wait till you start adding big power....lol

I would love a magnum xl in my my car but to be fair not all tremecs are winners. Anyone who thinks so has not been in the pony car world very long or has a short memory. My TR 3650 had a nasty cold weather 1-2 bite even with an MGW. Their rep was not that great at the time and the stock T- 5's before them were worse! The F-body guys were busy grenading the T-56. There were companies founded on beefing up those transmissions. Not just a bracket or shifter, the whole transmission! Those cars had significantly less power than these coyotes do. Back then with those Tremecs if you were pushing the power that a lot of these cars are pushing it was a given that you had already upgraded the trans. Of course there is an aftermarket option that is better but the mt-82 is not as bad as people think.

Looks like I stirred up a bit of a good discussion. I've seen a few threads about swapping in a 6060. Must be pretty good. Whats the difference between that and the Magnum XL a few of you mentioned?

I would kinda think it would. The modular platform uses the same bellhousing pattern.

Our 82s don't use any kind of a cooler? I'm sure plumbing in a cooler wouldn't be hard, the trans has an internal pump so all you'd have to do is mount a cooler and run lines to it.
only the r and track pack transmissions from 2016 have the internal pump. All 2017s will have the internal pump.

My Tremec is not notchy at all, at 9k miles it is quite smooth, might go with the MGW when its released though.

If someone is gonna go through the trouble of making this swap; why wouldn't they use the cooled trans?

The trans without coolers heats up pretty quickly.

exactly, just wanted non 350 owners to know the difference in transmissions and not assume any that came from a 350 were equal.

Also a salvage transmission from a base or tech has likely ran at 240-280 degrees in summer and potentially hit limp mode, where a cooled transmission has been limited to 180 ish.

there is no reason for anyone to swap to a base or tech tremec from 2015-2016.

So true... I have both the RXT and the MGW and just blew out my MT82. They are strong enough for non-boosted cars. I am talking to Ben C as well.

The GT350 uses a shorter input shaft and a dual mass flywheel and a twin disc clutch, if swapping the trans plan on the clutch/ flywheel.
