So I have been in talks with Ground Control for a few months now in anticipation of the release of these babies. I have used GC suspension components in the past on my e36 M3 as well as installed them and seen it used on my friends e46 M3. They have a long routed history in performance suspension with a priority on adjustability of both camber and height. So obviously, I was very much looking forward to picking up where I left off with the first Non-BMW I have ever owned (e36/e92), and keeping things with GC.

As a preface, I am coming off Koni Yellows with Eibach sportlines. I was able to retain the Koni's and add this coilover conversion kit right on top. Not to mention, Koni and GC are a great combo and actually come together in many of their packages. In my opinion, I thought the Sportlines were too firm for daily driving and needed to look for a more comfortable option. As far as height, I thought the sportlines rear height was good but the front was a bit too high and looked slouched to the rear.

GC and I worked together this last weekend as I installed them onto the car and helped me every step of the way. Fortunately, I have installed coils/springs on 4 of these mustangs already so I knew my way around. Trevor over at GC was extremely helpful throughout the process. Whether it was a simple question on torque specs or walking through the decision to go with 5" springs in front for ideal height adjustment, these guys are top notch!! As far as the install, it is very straight forward and aligns with the time for a normal spring install (minus the hours I spent perfecting the camber/caster & height… which gets addicting to be honest).

In terms of ride quality, we hit the nail on the head. These springs rates are offered in their DD optioned coil package and are perfect for the person that daily's this thing. Highway is comfortable while still retaining the performance you want on those back roads. I haven't driven it too much yet, but these are my initial impressions on my 50 mile trip today.

Height adjustment comes next. So in my case, getting lower while increasing comfort-ability was my main goal. The rears offer more than enough adjustability as you can see from the below picture (those are no where close to being maxed out). The fronts depend strictly on what size spring you get… which will also depends on your type of strut and the associated compression rate. We started with the standard 6" spring, which you can see the height below (that is maxed out). It wasn't where I hoped it would be, so GC promptly got on the phone and talked it out with me. We settled on the 5" spring which should arrive tomorrow. I will post more pics when i can dial in the front with the new springs. This will obviously allow me an additional inch of downward adjustment which is more than enough.

Overall I am very pleased with everything. The customer service and quality of products are tremendous. They bring a certain style of innovation to a very competitive industry. I think these are perfect for the guy that isn't getting that ideal stance from his springs, wants a more comfortable ride while also retaining lower ride height, or anyone that wants a quality suspension product at a good cost.

Thanks for posting the review! I've been telling quite a few customers this would pop up soon. Glad to hear you're happy with the adjustable ride height kit and camber plates, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the new front springs work out.

Thanks again for the pictures, greatly appreciated!

Trevor

Great write-up. I have been eying these since news came out. Few questions for you, if you don't mind.

How easy is it to adjust ride height up and down?
What spring rates did you go with?
What were the spring rates you got rid of?
Did you got with regular Koni yellows or with the GC custom valve Koni yellows?

Ton of question but I am glad to see someone installing these. Definitely interested in hearing more. :)

I'm sure Bbarfoot14 will chime in, but I can answer these as well.

The ride height is very easy to adjust. You will simply need to jack the car up, loosen the set screw on the adjustable spring perch, and rotate the perch left or right(up or down). It may be helpful to loosen the subframe bolts in the rear for more clearance, but not required.

These were installed on off-the-shelf Koni sport struts/shocks, and no modifications are needed to install these.

I'm not sure what springs he removed, however just about any rate can be included with the kit for the same price.

Thanks!

Interesting, thank you for posting your review. I look forward to future feedback and other customers experiences too. We all have such different tastes in ride that a bigger pool of experience would serve us well to sort of feel these out. Do you have a link to these so I can check them out?

Thanks for stepping in :)

How do your revalved Koni's compare to the normal yellow Koni's?

Thanks Trevor. I am coming from eibach sportlines springs, I don't have those rates on hand but they can be found by googling.

This is what I got from the spring rate post:

Eibach Sportline Kit: 217-331 / 879-994 (1.50" / 1.3" R)

How does this match up with what you have now?

I would also like to know GC custom valved Konis compare to the off-the-shelf units.

There is a huge difference when using our custom valved front struts. The struts are inserts, and mount inside our own shortened strut housings. They are custom valved to match a more aggressive spring rate, and the strut housings include a threaded sleeve with an adjustable spring perch.

I would definitely recommend our front strut housings as you have more valving, camber, and ride height adjustment. However we do offer a threaded sleeve to work with your existing Koni sports as it seems a lot of S550 guys(and girls) are already running the standard Koni sports with a set of lowering springs.

Both kits work great, and can be built to match your specifications. However the GC front strut assemblies are recommended.
