Picked up a used 2015 EB 3 weeks ago. 3k miles Love the car but something feels very wrong. I didn't notice it during the test drive as I was just too excited to drive it but a couple days after purchase I noticed that it seemed "resistant to smoothly go into second.

Actually all shifts seem like you have to overcome a resistant force to get into gear. But that may be by design. You pull towards gear. Resistance, and then it overcomes that and kind of springs into place.

Anyways I was shifting and it kind of "bumped" before going in. It felt metallic and not good. It didn't do it every time but maybe 4 percent of the time. I figured I wasn't clutching to the floor so I made sure I was but the issue was still there.

It kept doing it and seemed to be getting worst up to roughly 10 percent of 2nd shifts. Out of curiousty I shifted the stick really slowly the other day. When it had almost reached the position for 2nd (just before the previously listed resistance releases) I felt it grind. So it seems to be grinding between first and second.

Come this morning and I felt the grind into 4th once.

It doesn't grind when downshifting if that helps.

Video of the grind. (Clutch was on the floor when grind occurs)

Anyone experience anything like this? Or have any ideas?

I'd strongly suggest taking it to the dealer. The Ford Service rep on the board can assist getting an appointment setup for you. You could try taking a video - that would give us an idea as to maybe what's going on.

I definitely plan on taking it in ASAP. I'd take a video but since it's mildly intermittent and it's hard to shift, drive and film I'll need to get my wife's help lol.

Im no car mechanic or expert but I think its just a characteristic of this transmission (MT82). I have the same issue, the 1st to 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear shifts are extremely notchy. Maybe you're experiencing something different so I would still take it to get it looked at. The notchiness goes away after the car warms up or if you shift past 3.5k

Here is the grind. This isn't the best example because I essentially had to "find" it.

But you can see that between the neutral line and 2nd there is a grind.

Once I clutched for 2nd I left the clutch pressed to the floor. So I never actually engaged second when I went to show where the grind occurs.

Yikes. Not normal, definitely needs to be looked at. Sounds like either the synchro isn't doing its job or the clutch isn't fully disengaging. Either way, it won't get better from here.

I agree with Barrel. "Sounds" like the clutch isn't disengaging. Something way beyond a Steeda shifter bushing fix (which I have and strongly recommend).

Taking the spring out of the clutch pedal is the first thing you should do.

Or perhaps play it safe and return to dealer, then after it's resolved remove the spring because that spring will make even the most seasoned manual shifter appear like a chimp.

Mine does the same thing but only grinds when I'm shifting during a turn. I was thinking of installing a steeda transmission bushing to see if it will help.
Hey guys,

I recommend having this checked out by your local Ford Dealer. PM your VIN, mileage, name, phone number, and dealer info; I'll get a customer service manager looped in, to assist in the repair. :)
